Replace the ignition button. They are usually very inexpensive to replace.

Used or brand new? In which country?

You won't find them new in shops as they're no longer made. But you *might* find a NOS (New, Old Stock) Alto GM60 from an online stockist, but the manufacturer's guarantee will be worthless and some spare parts will already be difficult/impossible to obtain. You'll also need to check before purchase whether it's for natural gas, lpg, butane or propane.

All late (approx. 1990 onwards) Parkinson Cowan models had appalling build quality and frequent electronic faults, so I strongly advise that you look for a current brand.

I sooo wish I had not found time to take it apart to clean!

this web sight offers shop manual's .. you will need model and ser # this will get you a parts break down and part # ect .. there is on most oven doors 2 to 3 screws or ( H ) brackets that hold it together .. you may be missing some of these .. hope this will help mm

open up the bottom drawer in the cooker,nearest to the floor,inside to the left is a unit with two wires coming from it.open the top of this unit and insert one aa battery,bingo,teatime!!
