SOURCE: Hi I have a RIVAL

Bag will not seal

• Check that there aren't any gaps, folds, wrinkles or holes in pre-sealed edges.

• Moisture of foods with high liquid content will prevent the bag from

sealing properly. Cut bag open and wipe top inside of bag and reseal.

• Make sure you've placed the bag in the proper place. When making a

bag from a roll, make sure end of cut piece is on Sealing Strip, NOT over

Lower Sealing Gasket or in Drip Tray.

• Make sure you give the appliance time to cool down. Wait at least 20
seconds between seals.

If all the above have been verified and the machine will still not pull a vacuum, you will need to replace the upper and lower gaskets.

Try placing a folded paper towel in the bag between the item and the area of the seal
The towel will absorb the liquid allowing the bag to seal but keeping the liquid in the bag

SOURCE: When I go to SEAL, it burns a small hole clear thru the bag. One little metal peice on the sealing strip has burned right thru the white heating strip, therefore, it isn't sealing completely.

You need new tape to replace the one presently covering the heat element. You can get a roll of it for just US$7.99. Look at the FixYa question "where [or how maybe] can I get a new tape." I think that you have to be sure that the heat element is flat. I bought a used unit with that problem and the element had somehow gotten bent. Ordered the tape this morning and the cost is worth the hopeful fix.

Two things, you have to get the top of the bag straight and flat for it to make the seal. ... I checked out lots of different brands before deciding to buy this lower cost model.

Do they make special bags for this unit

They do! You can get them on the Seal-A-Meal website or even on Amazon. Here's a link.

How does the top of the machine snap shut? Is it supposed to snap shut before sealing? How do I seal the bottom of the plastic sheets so that I can seal the rest of the plastic sheet?

You seal the bottom then pull out the length you need, insert food and vacuum and seal the top. In other words, the top of one bag becomes the bottom of the next one.

V3840 heat strip doesn't get hot

Could be the heating element (wire that gets hot enough to melt plastic) is going bad, how long have you been sealing bags with the unit? If you have used it for some time there is the possibility of build up plastic/residue on the the wire or the surface that actually comes in contact with the bag as I would suspect there is a coated surface the element heats up as opposed to the element / wire coming in contact with the plastic itself!

Need upper and lower sealing gaskets for Rival Seal-A-Meal VS107

I've been told you can order replacement gaskets from Rival, about $6/set 1-800-557-4825 and $8 shipping, so may want to stock up (prices were quoted from 2012)

My Seal-a-meal won't heat up to seal the bag. The motor works and the ''hands free'' light comes on, but the heating strip is cold to the touch.

just bought mine - how long does it take to heat up? it's been 10 minutes already, I don't feel any heat. no lights coming on, but when I pushed on the lid, the vacuum started, so I know it's "on"
