Old top load washer Kenmore special edition 1104766392 washer leaks when in agitate and really bad in spin cycle. Believe its a seal. Please answer and tell me where I can find a parts breakdown.

Probably best to get a new one. If it's old, you could have a rusted out tub, if not and it is just a seal, they usually all should be replaced, and older washer parts are getting harder to find. So many new models come out every year.

With my old washer I was able to open the lid and it continued agitating. My new one does not allow me to open the lid while it is agitating. Is there a locking mechanism?

Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a "Lid Switch" as a safety device.

On older models the switch would stop the spin cycle when the lid is raised.

Newer models stop both the Agitate and Spin cycles.

If this is a Sears washer see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.

Kenmore 80 series top loading washer won't agitate and is noisy

Sounds like u may have broken the coupler gear between the motor and transmission... the replaced the belt with these gears on this model... But should go fill & pumb water out and NOT spin Or agitate... IF these gears or broke or stripped... heavy loads like u  said would do this... recheck and see if wash will pumb water out But will NOT agitate or spin.. IF so the above is your problem  and is Not to hard to repair  or much money

Below is a pic with the motor remove the white piece in the middle is 1/2 of the gear system with a rubber piece in the middle (not there)  and another like gear on the motor
sounds like these gears may be broken or stripped on your washer
