Jason Michael Carroll sings Alyssa Lies. Perhaps that is the song you are referring to.

The song is "Call Me" and was recorded by a number of diffrent singers, mainly female (Petula Clark, Nancy Sinatra, etc) but males as well (Frankie Valli). It was used as a lot as an album filler. Most arrangements I've run into have a samba beat.
