"Blinks a few times" implies the TV is flashing a fault code at you. If you can find a service manual for your model, count the number of blinks and look it up in the diagnostics section.

However, the most likely problem is a burned-out electrolytic capacitor in the power supply. These are usually easy to identify visually; the top of the can-shaped capacitor should be flat, but may be bulged out and may have brown or black material leaking from the vent scores. The photo below shows a bad capacitor to the right of a good one; both have black plastic sleeves.

If this is the case, replacement capacitors are relatively cheap. However, you should look for the following criteria in choosing a new part:
>Capacitance (uF): same as the original, or 10% higher if the original value is not available
>Voltage: same or higher
>Temperature: Maximum temperature should be same or higher
>Physical size: should fit in the space occupied by the original; if buying a taller unit, make sure it will fit when the back cover is reinstalled, and make sure the capacitor will not touch heat generating parts such as heat sinks, resistors or large transistors.
>Ripple current: get the highest available without compromising too much on endurance. Ripple current may be specified in mA or A; 1 A = 1000 mA. Sometimes you can get a better rating by going to a higher voltage part, but physical size may be a limitation.
>Endurance: Try to get 8000 hours or better.

I usually use Panasonic FR1 series capacitors, although United Chemi-Con EKZN capacitors are also worth a look. led power light comes on but screen will not come - 25351068-tkog3zu3xmxabptjkcidpctj-1-0.jpeg

I have a Sharp flat panel model LC-20SH4U. The units power LED light is red. No effect (sound or picture) when remote or on/off switch is activated. The LED light slightly blinks.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

clip_image001.jpg
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

Hope this may help;

verify that you have no image on all inputs. If it remains dark, unplug it and push the power button for about one minute, then plug it back in. See if that resets your TV.

If it remains dark, use a flashlight and angle it against the screen with the TV at a station where you can hear the sound See if you can make out shadows or shapes. If you do, then it is your backlight that has failed.

Omnitech jumbo universal remote control and vizio hdtv

Here are the instructions for auto code search from the Omnitech manual:
Automatic Search
There is another way to set up your controller, that does not use the brand code lists. You can let your
controller search through all of its available codes automatically in order to set the connection to the
target device. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Turn on the target device.
2.Point the controller at the target device and press and hold the Code Search button for around 3
seconds, until the LED light stays red.
3.Next select the type of device the target unit is by using the Cable/TV/VCR/DVD/Sat Buttons (i.e. if
it is a TV that you are trying to control, press the TV button). The LED light should then blink once,
then stay red.
4.Press the On/Off button on the controller slowly and repeatedly until the device you are trying to
connect with turns off. (Note: the LED light will blink each time you press the On/Off button). When
this happens, press the ENTER button in order to store the code and the LED light will turn off.
