If you experience difficulty with the disc tray opening or closing, follow these steps to try to resolve the issue.

  1. Turn off the power to the disc player or the stereo system, if the disc player does not have a separate POWER button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet.
  3. Verify there is nothing is blocking the tray from opening or closing.
  4. Let the disc player or the stereo system remain without power for approximately one minute.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  6. Turn on the power to the disc player or stereo system.
  7. Attempt to open or close the disc drawer or tray.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.
this is direct from sony hope it helps

My sony compact av system, model dav-c770 is stuck on stand by mode.wont power up anymore

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as another possible root cause for intermittent shutdown

Our Sony c 770 no longer plays DVDs or Cds but it still works as a receiver. Can we connect a DVD player to it and have it come thru the 5.1 speaker system?

Hi,
Yes, tis unit has 2 video inputs at rear so you can connect any other dvd player sound (analog or digital) to get 5.1 channel surround sound from DAV-C770 speakers.
Click Sony Support to download user manual copy of DAV-C770 that has more details about connection setup.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

On Sony DAV-C770 Dvd disks are stuck in machine and I've heard this is a common problem and almost not fixable. Are there enough jacks to hook up an external dvd player. There is already a stereo vcr...

This is a repairable assembly. It needs realigment. I have realigned many of these units with no problem as long as theres no broken plastic parts. What ever you do dont force anything.Yes there is a video input jack that can be used for hookup

Will it not accept any dics? If so then I would recommend a DVD lens cleaner disc. Usually not more then 9.99.
