My kitchen aid micro wave stopped heating the food. Everything seems to be working. Model Khms155L. I want to replace it but it is no longer in production. Is there a replacement model that is an exact fit? I do not want to tear up my new cabinets and tile.

Take your measurements and compare them to the measurements from various microwaves online, then go to the store that has the same measurements. I wouldn't use the microwave for fear of a fire.

SOURCE: MICRO WAVE RUNS BUT IT DOES NOT HEAT

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part such as high-voltage rectifier diode

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and
replacement, and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: microwave seems to be working

Chances are you have a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, but it may be a bad high voltage transformer.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which isvery helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our site, we have a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)

If you'd rather have a pro take a look, I would recommend that you contact Whirlpool customer service to find your nearest Whirlpool-authorized service center.

Whirlpool customer service is here and you can also enter your model number on that page to download your owner's manual, installation instructions, etc..

SOURCE: Burned out bulb on Kitchen Aid Microwave Model KBMC140

You will need to remove the oven from the wall and remove the outer cover.

If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download your owner's manual and installation instructions free from this page.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

You should be able to get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.

If you order it online (from the link above) it is part # 4375348.

SOURCE: Kitchen Aid (KA) Over stove Micro - vent grill plastic brackets

My grill has also fallen off twice. It usually results in the tabs breaking off. My solution has been to add tiny (1/2" x 1") shims in the slots where the tabs have broken. Look carefully. There are two tiny channels. I wedged the wood in and then reattached the grill using sheet metal screws in the same screw holes. It won't come down again. In three years since doing the kitchen with all KA appliances we have replaced the grill once. We had the stove removed and replaced by the appliance company at no charge after 4 months. We had our ice maker replaced out of warranty. I would never recommend KA appliances to anyone. The quality is absolutely terrible.

Microwave sometimes heats up food and sometimes it does not.

usually when you kill the power and then when you put power back on the machine works it's the computer board that's bad.all you're doing is resetting the board just like your house computer,if something happens to it you shut it down and reboot it,that's what you're doing with the micro wave just rebooting the board.here's the funny thing about micro waves sometimes the part you're gonna change is almost the same price as a new micro wave so i would first check how much the board is,i went on sears and they have the board for 115.00 repair clinic for 235 part number WPW10216347 they don't make this model anymore but you can get a stainless micro for around 290 to 300 dollars and if you buy the same brand all you should have to do is remove the bolts up above that hold it in place and remove the micro wave and the same brand should mount the same way so you won't have to drill new holes or replace the back metal panel.if i were you i would replace the unit instead of the board repair clinic shows most of the parts for this model out of stock so it might be a while before you can get any parts for this model but this is up to you.good luck with your micro wave.one more thing when you were in there did you see alot of grease, this is usually the cause of no heat, the grease from cooking on the stove top gets into the micro wave and on the mag tube and damages it,if there was grease in there i would just replace the unit

The microwave no longer heats food and it smells as if something is burning. Everything else on the microwave works. Is this a common problem and how can I fix it?

Its your Magnatron tube, thats what makes the microwaves and heats the food. The part will cost you more than a new micro. The new model that replaced yours is a JVM1540 and you can get them for 179.00

My microwave starts however food does not heat up.

Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron

My Maytag microwave stopped heating. Everything

Generally the magnetron (the part that heats the food) is the cause if everything else still works. Unfortunately replacing the magnetron is barely cheaper than buying a new microwave though you can check out repairclinic.com to decide whether you want to attempt replacing the part.

Let me know how this works out for you.

GE Over range microwave, JVM1660

This just happened to ours as well. Apparently the magnetron (device that creates radio waves that heat the food) is broken. I'm trying to pry the darn thing out of our kitchen now so I can replace the magnetron. Look for this part WB27X10489 on Google. I found it on ebay for $65. If it fixes the problem I'll post again.
