May have had a power surge. Now Visio light comes on, but no sound and black screen. Can it be fixed or too far gone?

Only to turn off and on. Previously it might take 3or4 tries for picture to turn on before it worked. Now there is no picture or sound.

After testing what I was able to and could find nothing wrong, I put tv back together and it worked until moved back in place, then it started acting the same way. I believe there is a faulty connector or component.

Not 'too far gone' yet but the nature of the failure points to the modular switched mode power supply,
Look for a block assembly with larger components and several connectors that is bolted onto a larger panel.
These are purchased from other sources, not made by Vizio.

Look into the guts of this assembly for cylindrical components with plastic foil and an aluminum top, mostly mounted vertical to the board.

Examine the tops of these for any dome-like appearance; this is a sign of failure since these should be flat.
They are inexpensive (one reason they fail) and this failure can be prevented by spending another dollar or two in the manufacture of them.

Two vizio TV's with issues

Take them to a TV repair centre as they are complex to repair. You may find that your homeowner insurance will pay for the repairs if you can demonstrate that it was a power surge that damage them.

Visio 1080p screen went light

Our Visio 42" flat screen TV did the same thing. It didn't happen that often but sometimes it would go darker or the sound would go off until I changed the channel or turned TV Off then back On. I contacted Visio through my warranty and they sent me a flash drive to install info on my TV. Did not fix the problems. A year later before warranty ended I contacted Visio again. They sent a huge box for me to pack my TV in to send to the warehouse where they fix everything. It took about 2 wks. to get it back. Worked fine for about 4 months and the problems continued. I will not buy another Visio TV. I found out that they had many problems with several models.

When i turn tv on, visio 37" 64hz 1080p HDTV, it

The Vizio 1080P HDTV offers a variety of features and input jacks that make it a true multimedia centerpiece. Occasionally, however, there are a few scenarios in which the screen blacks out.

  1. Basic
    • Verify that all input cables and your power cord are firmly inserted. If you are viewing a program that utilizes RGB (red, green, blue) or HDMI cables, be certain your TV is not in sleep mode. It will time out and appear blacked out in this case. Verify your sleep timer hasn't been turned on. Try resetting the TV by turning it off for 30 minutes.
    Advanced
    • If you experience limited or no lights, the power supply is likely failing. If you feel comfortable doing so, open the back of the TV and look at the power supply area (shock hazard). Follow the power cord area to find it. Check for bad capacitors, which look like small batteries with connectors soldered to the board. They will be blown or bulged out. Replace them or the complete power supply.
    Other Considerations
    • Verify your surge suppressor is not bad. These often have a connected equipment guarantee that covers your repair if a power surge caused failure. You can reset all settings to original modes by pressing "Reset All Settings " in the Setup menu.

I have a 42" Visio

I would try to look on the power supply first for popped capacitors that supply the 24v rail for the backlight inverter.

Having sound is a positive when it comes to repair. This means that only your screen is not lighting.

If you repair the 24v line and check the 5v feed also going to the BN_on (on) the backlight inverter and you still have no picture...you will need a new backlight inverter.

Hope this helps! Please rate!

Had power fluttering this morning. Now have sound only. Screen is blue. Cannot get picture to come on. Any suggestions.

Usually when the power fluctuates a significant level, it can seriously mess with electronics. This is why there are surge protectors; they protect against the levels of power that surge through the lines when the power comes back on. If your TV got hit with this unprotected, it's more than likely you fried your video processor in the TV. You can try to call Sony to see what they may be able to do, but I'd be willing to bet it's too far gone now.

TV has gone into "protect mode" to do just that to protect against the damaging failure that has been detected, you will need a servicer to diagnose the failure. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

No power on my Visio 32 flat screen

There is no reset button on these new sets, your set has complete power problem since you have no lights no clicks, this might have happen because of lightning or power surge, either one creates a lot of damage,if you are familiar with tv service you can check the main fuse,he should be close to where the power cord comes in,if you find the fuse blown it needs to be replaced with an exact replacement for AMPS rating and VOLTS rating as well as size,if the fuse is blown black we might have more problems ahead in the circuit and it will blow up again as sonn as you plug the tv back in,if it blows again it will need a more involved repair, the problem could be in the primary side of the power supply,if you are not too familiar you should seek the help of a servicer a least for an estimate but if you suspect power surge or lighting damage dont invest any more on this set and get a new one.
