You can check the line yourself over the internet by visiting the following website:

http://www.bt.com/faults

However I can see that a fault has already been logged against this number.

I have had a land line installed in my new residence in Plettenberg bay Western Cape There is SEVERE crackling noise on the line and can't be used. Please help

Hello, Michael -

First, please use the Edit feature and remove your land line and cell phone number, along with your address and name from the question. All that information will be a gold mine to someone wanting to commit ***** and identity theft.

Then, contact the business/person who installed your land line phone (make a phone call), explain the problem, and ask for a repair technician to come to your home and make whatever repairs are needed.

Best wishes.

My phone crackles

Are you talking about a land line phone or cell phone?
This is common for land line phones. Usually caused by dirty or corroded contacts inside the phone or wiring.

When I try to dial out the phone has loud crackling noise.

As Andrew Taylor stated, you could have service problem inside, or outside line trouble, is it worse when raining or wet out and better on warm dry days, sure sign of line problems.
You may also have a faulty phone which will act identical to this, as phones get older and dropped often enough, the circuits start to wear, burn, come loose and cause this static or interference.
Unplug all your phones and try a friends known good phone to see if static goes away, if it does, plug your phones back in one at a time, until you find the bad phone or bad phone jack..

Really bad crackling sound on certain calls

if only happens on certain calls it could either be the handset itself, a week point on all corded phones is the cable between the handset and the body of the phone. whilst talking to someone on a call wiggle the cord where it enters the handset, does it crackle if not do the same where the cord enters the phone body, if no crackle likely not phone.

next select a line if you have more than 1 line note which 1 and dial 17070. this will BT autotest the line. if more than 1 line on system do same for all lines. check with your system admin if there are quick codes to select individual lines, eg dial 9 for any line or 81 for line 1 82 for line 2 etc .

if you get crackle still on 1 of the lines get your maintainer to check the lione at the cable head where lines enter building

Panasonic THP-42v20a make crackling sound when on for 30 min and when powered off, why?

Is the crackling coming through the speaker(s) or from the rear of the set? If it's the rear it is likely to be EHT/horizontal related, although it would pay to check the power supply as well for leaky parts (capacitors etc).

If the final anode to the back of the tube is dirty but cleaning the area doesn't cure the crackle, check all capacitors in the collector of the line output transistors replace any that look bad or those which have cracks in them. It might also be a good (and safer) idea to replace the flyback transformer with a new one. Just a suggestion.

Always better to be safe than sorry in the long term.

Really bad crackling on line cant hear any conversations phone rings ok and dials ok but cant hear anything but crackling

Without the make and model of the phone unit, I would guess you are suffering from interference if you're using a cordless phone system.

If you are, move the base unit to a room that doesn't have appliances, wifi, or computers and check to see if that removes the static.
