One of the issues with that machine is cleaning the old lube out. IT gets thick and wont allow free motion of any of the parts.

There are a couple things that could do this...one would be if the reject bottom was stuck in or the wiring going to it shorted out, take an ohm meter and make sure there isn't a low resistance across it..The other thing I can think of is the reject switch on the tone arm is closed or out of adjustment and thinks the tone arm is at the end of the record so it rejects as soon as the needle sits down on the record

Does the needle actually contact the record? If not, you may be missing a "pad" under the record, or you may be simply missing the needle that needs to be there to follow the grooves.

Are all the gears at the base of the gripper arm free to travel their full distance?

simple turn table) TONE arms were largely Rube
Goldberg electro-mechanical thingy-ma-call-it...
that triggered off of the wag action of the center grooves ...
(in all 78, 45 and 33 rpm records (once upon a time)).

Without BENEFIT of year, make or model... ONE
might ACTUALLY look at the mechanical MECHANISM
and SEE the broken or missing spring, link or cam...

The very first/last action of ARM CONTROL was
the lift/lay action of the tone arm..

Without that FUNCTION "working" you are just
ruining records & needles...

My best advice would be to REPOST with
a hint of the proper nomenclature... I'm pretty sure
an appropriate volunteer expert will step forward.

usually there is sort of spring loaded screw situation under the tone arm
specifically for that purpose

Hi, Try this. with it turned off. Lift tone arm across a record to the run out groove and set it down. Now power up and hopefully it will reset itself. In all honesty I would sell it and get a decent old school player. John. Styluscity.com

There is an adjustment on the tone arm that you use to set where the tone arm picks up at the end of the record. This adjustment is normaly at the back (pivot point) of the tone arm and will be on the side probably. By the way, the tone arm is the part that the stylus is mounted to that swings back and forth to reach all the surface of the record. Make your adjustment and then test and continue doing this until you get it just where you want it. It is a process of trial and error. Good luck.
