That means it is unable to see your harddrive. Unlike a tower computer a laptops harddrive plugs straight into the motherboard this cannot be a cable fault.
Either the harddrive has died or the motherboards drive controller has gane bad.
You will need to seek profesional help to deal with this, the only thing you can do your self would be to swap the harddrive with another and see if you get a Windows stop message, your machine would not be able to start the Windows of another machine because of hardware differences, but if you got a Windows error message at least it would tell you if your harddrive was dead or not.

It could be one of several problems:
1. Bad hard drive (reasonable likely depending on age); does the hard drive make noise or spin?
2. Loose hard drive cable (less likely)
3. Virus (likely)
If it doesn't boot at all you can open up the back and make sure the hard drive is "seated" properly - that means all the connections are firmly in place. If that doesn't take care of it you will have to try and reinstall the OS.

I bouht one used and had no tablet pc restore discs, but my 40 GB hard drive was full of programs. I cloned the drive with operating system reimaged my 160 GB hard drive with the image. You need to use partition software to repartition the new drive to " see" the larger drive with free space. This can be done before or afte. I did it after because i had to go thru trial and error acouple of times due to no real concrete info on the web.

Your restore disk set was a 3 disk set that came with the unit. You should have all of your drivers, applications, and your xp tablet pc OS on those disks. I can get you a disk set if you don't have it anymore but you would have to use your own legal cd key and activate it. I can get you a copy of the 2005 xp tablet edition os, you would have to use your own cd key and activation to make it legal. Although it will install with it's own cd key, licensing requires you to use legal activation and the key that came with your unit. Check with mpcdrivers.com
