The TV is a samsung 32 LCD as said the picture fades and I am left with bright coloured lines - vertical, this can happen after 2 hours. Could this be overheating of the power supply board

If there are colored lines then it could be the inverter's aren't able to continue to power up the screen but are driving these colored lines? Is it an LCD or a Plasma. My guess is a plasma?

Graham, unfortunately your issues isn't with the TV's power supply but more with the LCD panel itself. You are correct with the thought its a heat issue as the panel gets warmer it is drawing more power where these vertical lines are displaying. Sorry! Cost more to fix it then to buy a new one!

Most likely it's the PDP panel wires failure. It won't cost you more to repair then to buy a new one.

SOURCE: Vertical colour lines on whole screen

The problem is that the panel has failed. Apparently this is a common problem with LCD TV's between 18 mths and 3 yrs old. If it survives over 3 yrs it is likely to last for a few years longer. The cost of replacing the panel is more than a replacement TV!

SOURCE: vertical colour bars

The problem is in the LCD controller board is overheated because the power supply unit is at the bottomof the TV and the heat rises upward to the vent on the top of the TV. You can verify that is hest problrm by running TV with the back removed and have a small fan blowing on the top secdtion of the TV where the LCD controller is. This how I fixed my scrambled picture after warm up (I added heat sinks to the IC on the LCD controller board) : http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LTV-32W3HD/
You can try it if the board was not badly damaged already by the heat. My has been running great for over a month now.

If there is a wide faded vertical line that is showing on the screen and a black film that shows up periodically across the screen. Does that mean that the picture screen need to be replaced?

Picture tubes are one of the last components to actually die in any CRT television. Usually the only reason they are / were changed was due to colour degradation or dead pixels. I would be looking at either the colour boards or for yoke damage. If the picture still fills the entire screen then the high voltage section and tube are still OK.
Hope this helps a bit. Cheers Bob

Vertical lines

Most likely the lines are coming from a failing LCD panel tab connection. The capacitor problem and LCD tab problem are the most common problem for older Samsung LCD's

Very blurry picture / vertical colour lines

It sounds that the LVDS cable; the cable that connects to T'Con board to LCD panel is loosely fitted. Check it first. If it is found OK, the panel itself should be suspected. If you wish to get more details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts there, either by its left side bar, or see it in Timslide option. Faulty screenshots of LCD TV screens, have been illustrated. Compare them to your TVs present screen view, and be sure. Check the site with patience.

PB Minos GP2W screen has coloured lines fades white then black

Most likely it's graphic card problem, but also may be monitor itself. First, check the signal by connecting to TV (if yours has a PC input), then replace card if that shows the same.
