The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

How do you adjust the tension control on an Elna lotus SP

The tension dial is on the front of the machine right above the needle. The higher the number, the tighter the tension is applied to the top thread. HINT: When threading the top thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot throughout the entire threading process. This allows the thread to seat completely in the tension disk. Tension is correct when the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

I have an Elna Pro 4 DE overlocker and the thread keep breaking - I have re threaded a number of times now but the thread keeps breaking - it was working fine earlier today - what could be the proble

Try different thread (black thread seems to be more problematic because of the heavy dye). Perhaps, change the needles.

When you re-thread, do you completely remove all the thread and start from the beginning--there could be a snag somewhere or the thread is looped around something, ie the thread tree? ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading. Give each thread an extra little tug when going through the tension disk--it will sometimes make a little snap sound when it seats. Also, make sure you are threading each in the order specified. Threading out of order will generally guarantee a problem.

There is a slight chance something (thread bits, lint) could be stuck in the tension disk.

If it continues, you may want to take it for service as it could be the timing is off.

How do i adjust the tension on elna 2003?

Not quite sure what you are asking. The upper tension is governed by the tension disk. Higher number is tighter, lower number is looser. Usually, the mid-range is a good place to start. Tension is correct when upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

NOTE--ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading so the thread will seat in the tension disk!

The right hand needle on my elna 664 keeps breaking, can anyone help?

Make sure it is installed correctly (all the way up) and threaded correctly. Generally, when something goes haywire, it is best to remove all the threads, RAISE the presser foot, and rethread completely from the beginning. Also, grasp the thread above and below the tension disk and give each a little tug to verify it is seated properly.

Then set the tension dials to the midway point and test. If the needle continues to strike, then it may be out of time and need adjustment.

How can I get the monogram to work properly?

On my sewing machine that would be an indicator of misadjusted thread tension. Changing thread type or diameter generally requires tension adjustment. In this particular case, I\'d increase the bobbin tension a bit (if I understand your description correctly, the bobbin thread forms loose hoops), and back off on the upper (spool) tension (pulls too hard on the thread). On one or two of my bobbin cases, I had problems with the tensioner screw working loose during use. I put a dab of nail polish on the screw head to stick it to the bobbin case. Problem solved.

I\'m not familiar with your particular machine, but I don\'t see why you can\'t make the character any size above the minimum (which would be the smallest readable character that can be made with the stitch length and type used).

My Elna 8600 is pretty new. I bought it last may

It sounds like the timing may have to be reset or adjusted - it happens, so do not be alarmed.

Open the needle plate, remove the bobbin and bobbin case and clean away any lint or thread snips that may be there.

Re-thread the machine with the presser foot up - always.

If there is still a problem find a dealer who will service the machine for you.

The Elna site should have dealer locations.
