Hi there. There are a couple of solutions that you may wanna try.

1) Spray some compressed air at the laser coz sometimes it may be due to the dust.

2) Try other CDs.. it may such that a particular CD is faulty. Ensure your CD type is compatible is the player.

3) The CD tray may be out of position. Try shaking it or adjusting it. Check to see if it sits in the holder properly.

4) The internal circuit may be damaged.

5) If you are familiar with the components, you may want to open up the player and lubricate the motor.

Hope it helps :)

The Optical Pickup(laser) has worn out. When you place a disc in the drawer, it has to load and read the TOC(table of contacts) if if can't read that, it assumes there is no CD in the drawer and stops or ejects.

Troubleshooting cd player

Your Optical Pickup is worn out. When you put the disc in the drawer, it must load to read the TOC(table of contents). If it can't read the TOC, it will stop or eject.

I have a Technics CD changer SL-PD867 it will not play re writable disc's all other disc ok

You should realize that this player is about 20 years old.
It was not designed to read CD-R or CD-RW media.
The signal from these media types is different from audio CDs you buy.

My Technics SL-PD987 5-Disc, does not read CD any more. First did not read burned CD, after did not read original CD.

Power the unit off. Unplug it. Press the power button for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and try again.

If this doesn't resolve the problem, I recommend a CD cleaner. This is a CD that has a small brush attached. It will clean the dust from the laser reader.

If this doesn't work, I'd suggest a professional repair shop.

I burned a CD on my PC to keep in my car and it plays OK in the car and on my PC, but does not play on my Technics SL-PD687 5 disc cd player. It's recorded in *.cda format and it's on a CD-RW. Any...

The problem with old CD Players are that they sometimes are a little fidgety when it comes to reading CDRs.

You could try burning a new CD on the lowest possible setting, say 2x or 4x.

Also try changing the CDR brand as some cheap CDRs are prone to not reading in old CD Drives.

Try using a regular CD-R (CD recordable - record only once) instead of a CD-RW (CD rewritable - rewrite multiple times). CD-RW use a different "ink" to write the data to the disc and can be re-recorded/erased a couple of times before it loses its ability to write effectively to it.

I buy a used technics sl-pg480a cd player and after i inserted a cd, there is "no disc" on display...i try with different cd's (mp3, avi,...) and it's always the same...i have opened a box and...

If it doesn't turn the disc it can't read the data and 'know' from that there is a compatible disc inserted.

You may have gotten hosed by the seller. Until you get it to play with a commercial music CD I wouldn't try anything non-standard or home-grown. It doesn't play anything but CD-A music so MP3 and AVI discs would not be recognized anyway.

Before you dive in and possibly wreck it, read this...

Technics 60 cd changer cannot see disk in changer

The following website sells the drives and does installs:

http://store.richspsxparts.com/wiiredvddr.html

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your disc, or issues inserting your disc or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your CD Changer.
Hope this will help...
