I have a Kenwood KA 893. I have no control over the volume. The dial is spotty. Sometimes I can turn the volume up but it usually does what it wants. I do not have the remote.

Called local repair shops who won't even look at it for under $50

Sounds to be dirty. There is a thing called tuner cleaner you can use to clean it. You will need to remove the control knob and try spraying into the control, but you may have to get inside to clean it up good by breaking down the unit.

Thanks, but I know about tuner clear, the problem is that there is no way to get to that area without pulling off the knob. Catch 22.

Our Kenwood major classic is very noisy and cuts out sometimes

Sounds as if the amplifier is overheating? Does it do this at all volume levels or only when turned up to higher levels- if so it's likely the amplifier inside of the receiver.

Kenwood chef keeps curdling eggs

Put water in Kenwood and a bowl inside the Kenwood to hold eggs. Eggs need to be done SLOWLY. Can also add a LITTLE water to aggs as they cook to slow down curdling . Basically you need to turn Kenwood into a double boiler. Lift bowl with eggs in and out of Kenwood to control temperature and whisk away now under control. Lift bowl and cool and slow down cooking and lower back in water and Kenwood to hear back up. Keep whisking and lift and lower bowl as needed. Some melted butter doesn't hurt either!

Hello CANADA43. From the symptoms you describe, I would say that your there is something awry with your mixer’s internal speed control assembly. You said the mixer had never been used and the spotty running started the very first time it was used. Is it still under warranty (have you owned it for less than one year)? If so I’d contact KA immediately and tell them about your problem with the stir speed not working correctly. The KA website is at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home. Click on Customer Care>Contact Us> and the toll free phone number is listed to speak with someone. You can also look under the Warranty & Service Plans to see what KA will do for you. I've extracted parts of it here:
Hassle-Free Replacement Warranty
We’re so confident the quality of our products meets the exacting standards of KitchenAid that, if your mixer should fail within the first year of ownership, KitchenAid will arrange to deliver an identical or comparable replacement to your door free of charge and arrange to have your “failed” mixer returned to us. Your replacement unit will also be covered by our one year full warranty. Please follow these instructions to receive this quality service.
If you reside in the United States and your KitchenAid® mixer should fail within the first year of ownership, simply call our toll-free Customer Satisfaction Center at 1-800-541-6390, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Eastern Time. Give the consultant your complete shipping address. (No P.O. Box Numbers, please.) When you receive your replacement mixer, use the carton and packing materials to pack-up your “failed” mixer. In the carton, include your name and address on a sheet of paper along with a copy of the proof of purchase (register receipt, credit card charge slip, etc.).

If your mixer is no longer under warranty, then you can still replace the control assembly by yourself. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> enter the visitor type “Consumer” and then Enter the 6 character model number, in your case: KP26M1, and select one of the first two files listed under Parts List (47) (The first file, KP26M1XAZ4.pdf (304.18 KB), is for a -4 series model and the second file, KP26M1XAZ5.pdf (724.41 KB) is for a -5 series with slightly different insides, so make sure you have the correct Parts List manual.)
For a series -4 mixer, turn to pgs. 4 & 4, titled Case, Gearing And Planetary Unit that shows an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. Locate Illus. No. 8, Control Assembly (incl. Knob). (For a series -5 mixer, turn to Pgs 4 & 5, and locate Illus. No. 19, Control Assembly). You’ll want either the black or grey knob contol assembly. The part numbers are the same for both series mixers, so you just need to choose the right color.
Here are five potential online vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com (for grease). Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do some comparison shopping.
Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer. The mixers displayed in the links are different KA models, but the principles are the same.
Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble and reassemble your mixer, should you decide to go that route.
If you feel this repair is beyond your capability, then I would seek out a local small appliance repair shop in your area. KA Customer Care can give you names of local KA authorized repair shops in your area, but you can also do an online search to supplement what KA may provide you. Call to explain your circumstances and find out their hourly rate and get an estimate of what they think it would cost to repair your mixer. Also, always obtain three or more estimates – do some comparison shopping. Good luck, I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

I have a kitchen aid stand mixer KG25HOXWH.

Hi ZPAORUSKI. I suspect your switch problem has to do with the speed control assembly inside your mixer’s head, and yes you can order and replace it.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case: KG25H0 (use zero and not ‘O’), and select one of the last two files listed under Parts List (9) (check to ensure this matches your mixer model. KA made a -4 series and a -5 series with slightly different insides, so make sure you have the correct Parts List manual.) For a series -4 mixer, turn to pgs. 2 & 3, titled Case, Gearing And Planetary Unit that shows an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. Locate Illus. No. 8, Control Assembly. This is where I suspect your problem lies. (For a series -5 mixer, turn to Pgs 4 & 5, and locate Illus. No. 18, which is the speed control assembly).
First inspect around the controller assembly to ensure that all the wire connections are OK. It's possible a connection has come loose. Unfortunately the whole controller assembly is fabricated on a little PC board filled with resistors, capacitors and other electronic parts, which was not meant to be 'home fixed'. My 'expertise' ends at being able to recognize a resistor from a capacitor, but I don't get much deeper than that. A local small appliance repair shop should be able to determine if the controller assembly is functioning properly or not.
As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself.
If you feel troubleshooting and repairing is beyond your capability, then I would seek out a local small appliance repair shop in your area. Good luck. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

I hope you didn't buy a new one, ours stopped last week after 25 years. All that was needed were new brushes for the motor. Anyone with a screwdriver could replace them. 4Kenwood had the parts to me in a couple of days.
