Is this preventing you from shooting?
Normally the r-number simply indicates how many more shots you can take in the current burst before the buffer fills up and the camera has to slow down to save the pictures to the memory card. It's purely FYI and shouldn't stop you from shooting (until it gets down to r00).

on the top of the camera, there is a dial which says QUAL, WB and ISO. Look for button and ring just below this. It should say S, CL, CH, Lv, a clock and Mup. Press the button to release the ring and rotate it to the clock icon to activate self timer

Do you have the latest firmware update for the D300?
I recently upgraded mine, it it now seems to be more noticeable, more so than before - but it's nothing to worry about - in a way it's the way it tells you it's working !

This should make no difference the way the camera performs. I believe that it is the buffer for shooting in burst mode. Is it on all the time?
It should just flash every time when you half depress the shutter.

Hi Dee and thanks for coming to FixYa.
Hold the camera like your going to take a picture. Now turn the camera over to look at the bottom. On the right hand side is a small latch. The latch secures the battery hatch door. Pop the latch and the battery door should open.
Turn the camera back over carefully and the batter should slide out.
Then plug the battery into the charger and you can charge it. Have fun with your new camera!

I think the factory repair service is the best choice for this type repair. The El Segundo location worked well for me. You may be able to contact them by phone (number on the Nikon web site) and ask about cost, but if you ship the camera to them they will give you a quote before starting work.
