What do you mean by "recognizes old phone number"? If the previous phone number has been entered as "own number" somewhere it will be stored until changed manually, but this is used for convenience only, the phone operates on the number from the SIM card...
Best idea is to do a factory reset if you got it from a friend, this way you'll get rid of any old garbage and settings.

you will after get the sim card cut go to the local phone shop and they will cut the sim and put it in the phone or go to your nearest sim provider shop e.g. vodafone shop ask for a sim card change then they will change your sim card for free and put your number on the new sim card

I just put my SIM card from my old phone in the HTC phone as tell me Sim not provisioned mm number 2 what's wrong

Make sure the SIM card can be used with the new phone. Some are not compatible. If you have this problem, copy the contents of the SIM on a PC or Tablet and then copy the file to the new SIM. Hope all comes out ok.

Unable to send messages form zong's sim on Htc mobile shadow II

Seems like you have a problem in your text message service center number. Either by knowingly or unknowingly, you have edited the service center number for text messages for that particular sim.
The best way is to find a friend who uses the same network and look at his service center number and type that number exactly in your device's service center number field. That way, it'll be fixed

Hi there,i had purchased htc thunder bolt a month ago from Miami US and since it was a lock piece i also bought unlock code online. Now the biggest challenge i am facing is when i put my local active sim...

Hi, i think your step not correct when entering HTC Thunderbolt unlock code. You must use your old sim card to unlock your phone, don't use new sim card before that phones completely unlocked. That's why your sim card not recognized. If this method not working maybe you get wrong HTC unlock code, since it's little rare for me. Usually if you bought unlock code reputable online store, they usually send unlock code with complete instruction how to insert that unlock code in your phones. The bottom line try my method and if not working get new code. Thanks.

NB: don't enter your wrong code to many times in your phones, it will caused your HTC to hard locked state and you can't use that phone even you put your old sim card.

I cant get my contacts from my old sim card on my htc

Put your sim into your old phone and copy contacts to sim. You might loose sum info, but you will not loose your contacts and the numbers. Then put the sim into your HTC and copy contacts to phone.

No service on my unlocked HTC Touch HD

Check that your o2 number is activated and in-service by using it on another handset or just call the o2 helpdesk to get your number activated if it is a new service,
If you can assess that your new o2 number is in service and the HTC Touch still does not work, then your handset has not been fully unlock as they are basically two types of locks:
1) The 'normal' Network lock that allows any 'Orange' SIMs to work on the device (basically unlocked by NUK code)
2) The 'nasty' SIM lock' that only allows a SINGLE number on a specific SIM card to work on the locked device.
In either cases, make sure that you get all restriction lifted.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go and good luck!
