Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Contact the authorized service centre; to buy a genuine PS board.

My Sony tech says it's most likely a bad cable box. Try a DVD and if the DVD is fine then it's for sure your cable box. Needs to be replaced by the cable company.

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.

To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

it sounds like your back light might be going out. You might be able to fix this by installing a new backlight inverter board.

How do I do a hard reset of my Sony kdl- 52v5100 without the remote

Hello Rick Waldeck,

Short of actually reading the OWNERS MANUAL
which I did look through... (page 20)..

All the references in there FLAT OUT tell
you to use your remote (why wouldn't you?).

There are a TON of FEATURES you cant get to
without a PROPER REMOTE.

I found NOTHING ELSE.

SONY SUPPORT would be your next logical
place to go... (see below) 1-800-822-SONY (7669)

Sony bravia kdl 52v5100 powers on with button green lite stays on but no picture or sound then shuts off after a minute or so had back off no obvious damage

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. ..

Sony Bravia KDL-52V5100 needs to be turned on for almost 20 minutes & then shut off and on again before the picture comes in. When turned on for the first, it comes in with the sound, but no picture.

Sony KDL-52V5100, HDMI 1 shows no signal, HDMI 2 shows audio only. I have checked both devices feeding these 2 ports and they work fine in another tv. Is this a common problem? What can I check? The tv has...

I had this tv for almost a year, and I experienced this exact same problem about 3 or 4 times. The only thing you can do is turn the tv off and unplug it for a couple minutes. When you plug it back in it will work. This issue along with the intermittent sound issue on HDMI fed sources drove me crazy until I exchanged my tv for a KDL-52EX700. So glad to be done dealing with Sony customer support...because they're TERRIBLE. I had to email a VP at sony to get any results. The picture is beautiful on the V5100 for a lcd, but it's not worth dealing with the other issues...it's a flawed model. Hopefully your tv is still under warranty...you will have to call Sony and tell them your problem. They'll send a tech to come out, and he'll probably change out the motherboard..it won't fix anything. Then they'll probably send a tech out again to do the same thing when you keep calling...eventually they'll offer you an exchange. That's how it went for me...it was a 7 month nightmare.
