SOURCE: How to add remote starter to existing keyless entry/alarm system

No you do not need to scrap anything. Most of the starters at www.directwholesale.net will work with everything you have installed. Also its a good idea to leave all that stuff in anyway as it will take away from the resale value when you go to sell it. Most of the new remote starters will take place of the factory remote anyway so you will only need to carry one (provided you get the one that has all the features on it). If you get the cheapest one out there, you would still carry the factory remote as well (which is what I do myself). I would personally leave all the factory Honda System in and get the cheapest starter out there. Seems like this would 1.) be the best bang for the buck and 2.) not take away from the value of the vehicle since nothing would be removed. Thank you for using FixYa. Good luck to you!

Sincerely,

JC

SOURCE: Keyless entry blinks dome light and does nothing else

The remote is fine - your problem is the lock actuators in the doors. They're a bit of a pain to replace - so, you may want to have a professional do it.

Detailed wiring info????

Hello Tom,
Power lock gray (- polarity) at white plug near fuse box.
Power unlock (- polarity) purple, at white plug near fuse box.
These wires will test only by operating the key in the passenger door lock cylinder, not the rocker switch on the door.

I bought a used Ford Crown Victoria with an Avital system installed and the seller told me the way the system was setup was using the keyless entry to unlock the doors as the only way to start the car

The way the system was set up?! Here is what it sounds like. If you cannot start the car with the key but, you can start it with the remote starter means two things; the car has a starter inhibit installed and it's active or, the starter wire is cut and isolated from the ignition cylinder and the remote starter is connected to the starter side only of said cut wire.
About the keyless entry; Ford vehicle have a battery save mode that, after 10 minutes or so, the GEM module goes to sleep. The installation of a keyless entry system on these vehicles require connections at the unlock, driver's door ajar/latch wire and factory alarm disarm and programmed to double pulse. This will wake up the GEM and unlock the doors.

Starter stay engaged after it starts

If your starter stays engaged after the vehicle starts with the remote starter then, the vehicle's starter wire is receiving 12 volts, most likely from the remote starter's ignition or accessory wires. Check the connections to the vehicle's wiring: the battery wire is constant 12 volts, regardless of key position. The accessory wire(s) is 12 volts with the key at accessory and on/run (position 1 & 2), the ignition wire(s) is 12 volts with the key at on/run and start (position 2&3), and the starter wire(s) is 12 volts with the key in the start position (position 3) ONLY. Make sure that the remote starter wires are connected to vehicle's wires as directed by the Bulldog instructions.

Both remotes failed to either start the car or lock or unlock the car this evening.. after entering with the key the old fashioned way, the car will not start with the key,the starter turns over fine...

no reset button, sorry. If the starter is turning over, then it's more than likely not an alarm or keyless problem. if it was even connected, the starter kill feature is used to "cut" the starter wire from the ignition and the starter itself, and if you say it's turning over, that's where i get my answer for it not being the avital. of course there could be more to it, remote start added, and the type of car make a huge difference, could be a bypass module for bypassing a factory security system, so without any more info, that's all i can give you. hope this helps, dave

We had the Avital 4003 keyless engine starter remote installed on our 4Runner in July when we purchased it. We shipped the car overseas and now that it has arrived the renmote will only start the radio...

You mean the igniton powers up but it does not start, correct? Sounds like the remote starter is not sending power to the starter. Did it ever work? It's possible that one of the 30amp fuses (one that supplies power to the starter output of the remote starter) is blown. If there is 12 volts present, check for voltage at the starter wire (purple) from the remote starter. If it has voltage, make sure it's connected. Also make sure that the harnesses of the remote starter are completely plugged into the module.

2005 grand prix car starter (factory installed) does not work

Start with checking the remotes. The battery hold downs can break when dropped. After that the transmitters can be tested at the dealer, usually free, If they are bad they will have to be replaced and the new ones programmed. If the transmitters are good the system codes will need to be checked.
