My Canon HG10 camcorder won't turn on

I have used 3 fresh batteries and the power adapter. Nothing happens when I flip the power switch on. I sent the camera into Canon and they returned it saying that they no longer repair this camera. Does someone know how to tear into this and fix it?

SOURCE: Canon ZR40 would not turn on

The battery is probably so dead it is using all the power from the wall supply.  Remove the battery, and run only from the wall supply.

SOURCE: Where can buy replacement DC power coupler for

Ebay seems the cheapest option - plenty of replacement spares for HG10.
Otherwise you can try ordering direct from Canon spares, but chances are it will be expensive.
Good luck,

Possible main fuse blown. It's made by littelfuse and is very small but not impossible to replace. It's suggested if you solder a new one on top of the existing blown fuse due to its size. Also ensure all ribbon cables are properly seated or it may result in blowing the main fuse.

My Sony DCR-TRV240 camcorder won't eject the tape. The power and all camera features work, but it won't eject a tape.

I'm sorry that the Camcorder is not ejecting tape. Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided below and check the operation:

1. Please make sure that the battery is fully charged. 2. Perform Reset by following steps:

1. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD panel of the camcorder. 2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds. 3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.

3. Perform a manual power reset by following the steps:

1. Turn off the camcorder. 2. Disconnect AC power adapter. 3. Remove the battery pack. 4. Move the POWER switch to the CAMERA position for 15 seconds. 5. Move the POWER switch to the OFF position. 6. Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack. 7. Turn on the camcorder.

If the issue persists after following all the steps service will be required. You can find repair information and initiate service at:

Hi!

Almost sure there is nothing wrong with your battery, charger and camcorder.
The battery loose power even when doing nothing, especially when it is a NiMH type.

Please charge the battery for a couple of hours and try again to start the camcorder.

Good luck!

Canon Hg 10 Vertical line on image

This camera outputs interlaced video files. That can be the lines you are talking about if you are playing it back on a PC. The camcorder itself will de-interlace the video during playback on the actual camera, but not the file. You have to either play it (60i) with a hardware or software player that de-interlaces in realtime, or export your video file into a progressive (or deinterlaced) format. Some cheap editors dont deinterlace. I use Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas.
