My mouse not working?

There may be several issues which can cause your mouse not to work properly with Microsoft Windows. This document contains the more common solutions that should be followed for best results.
If you are using a USB mouse, disconnect the mouse cable and then reconnect to a different USB port. If the mouse is connected to a USB hub, unplug the mouse cable and the connect it to a USB port on the back of the computer.
PS/2 mouse
If you are using a mouse with a PS/2 connection, check the back of the computer to verify that it is plugged into the PS/2 mouse port and not the PS/2 keyboard. If the mouse has worked properly in the past (i.e., this is not a new mouse), turn off the computer, then disconnect and reconnect the mouse.

Wireless mouse
  1. Make sure the mouse is receiving power by checking for some indication of power (usually a light). If your mouse has a power switch, it is often located on the bottom side.
  2. If the mouse does not appear to be on, replace the batteries.
  3. Make sure the wireless receiver is within range and is not blocked by too many objects.
  4. Disconnect the wireless USB adapter and try plugging it into a different port.
  5. Mouse software or driver conflict Boot into Windows Safe Mode. If the mouse is working in Safe Mode, there is likely a driver or software conflict. To fix this problem, follow the steps below.
    1. Open Windows Device Manager.
    2. Expand the mouse (mice) option in Device Manager by clicking the + symbol.
    3. Remove all mice listed by highlighting each device and then pressing the delete key on the keyboard.
If the mouse still does not work in Normal Windows, follow the basic troubleshooting steps for your version of Windows.
  6. Check if a driver has been installed for the mouse. You can check in the Device Manager for this. While Windows may have a standard or default driver for the mouse, installing a driver for your specific mouse may fix the issue. You can check our driver list page to find links to some of the more popular manufacturers' websites to download a driver for the mouse.
If a driver is installed for the mouse, it is recommended that you check if there is an updated driver for the mouse. Updating the driver may fix issues with a non-functioning mouse.
  7. Hardware issues Bad Port
If the previous solutions did not solve the problem, try another mouse. If that mouse works, try the mouse that is not working with another computer. If multiple mice do not work, the problem is with the mouse port. If you are using the PS/2 or USB port on the back of the computer, the motherboard is likely bad and needs to be replaced.
    Bad Mouse
If the mouse does not work with more than one computer, the mouse is bad and should be replaced. If you are using a wired mouse, check the mouse wire. If the wire has been partially cut or is frayed, this is likely the cause of the mouse not working. Replace the mouse if this is the case.

My usb receiver broke for my evoluent mouse. Is there a way I can replace only the usb receiver for this mouse or do I have to repurchase the mouse?

I'm afraid you'l have to repurchase a new set of USB dongle and mouse. Dongle of another wireless mouse is not compatible with a mouse not paired with it from babric.

USB Dongle for Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse 5000

My best advice: don't buy a wirelss mouse. If you want a REAL wireleess mouse, get a blouetooth mouse.

This is a problem with a iHome Laser Mouse product. ihome 3-Button Laser Mouse Model Number- iH-M120LB Serial Number:0906001183 I am having trouble using the left click button on the mouse. I...

When you change the left mouse pointer to be the right mouse pointer in the settings of the mouse, then if the right mouse button stops working, it is a software problem and reinstalling drivers is the way to go. If on the otherhand the left mouse button still does not respond, then there is a problem with the switch in the mouse. This is hardware related. Either clean the mouse or buy a new one.

My logitech wireless mouse is not working. the s/n is lzb34356296

1. Try putting in new batteries to the mouse.
2. Connect the mouse to the computer by pressing the button on the bottom of the mouse AND the mouse USB connector at the same time.
3. Try another mouse to see if the logitech mouse is the issue.
3a. If the other mouse works, then the logitech mouse is dead. You can usually send eWaste to a nearby computer store or general recycling center.

I have an Asus 1201N netbook and my mouse stopped working. Windows starts correctly and I can navigate through the Windows 7 Start panel with my keyboard but the mouse does not respond. What am I to...

Don't think it could be a mouse driver problem since you already said that it stopped working which meant that the mouse was in fact working before under Windows 7 on your netbook. Based on this, here are some suggestions to resolve your unresponsive mouse problem. Basically, you are trying to determine if the problem is due to the mouse or due to the netbook....
1. If you have a wireless mouse, did you try replacing its battery with a new battery?
If the wireless mouse now works with the new battery, your problem is resolved.
2. If you have another laptop, did you try moving the unresponsive mouse to try it there?
If the mouse also does not work on the other laptop, then suspect the mouse is faulty.
3. If you have another mouse, preferably a wired one, did you try it on your Asus 1201N?
If the replacement mouse works on the Asus 1201N, then suspect original mouse is faulty.
4. Finally, just an observartion, the Windows 7 mouse driver expects a Microsoft mouse and if you click on Control Panel > Mouse, the Mouse Properties window will say No Microsoft USB Mouse Detected but this should not prevent the use of any generic mouse.

Just a thought, perhaps you could borrow a usb cable mouse. Tell the comp to detect the wireless mouse, then unplug the usb mouse.
