Hello Hans;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
There could be several areas that would effect your water dispenser not working:
1.) When you depress the water dispenser do you hear a 'Click'? If not you have a bad water dispenser contact switch.
I would send you a diagram but I do not have your model number.
2.) In the lower back of your fresh food section is your water dispenser water tank. At times this can freeze near the freezer section. Look in the lower corner of the freezer & your fresh food section for ice build-up.
3.) You could have a bad water filter. This does happen often. Remove the water filter and test you water dispenser.
4.) Do you have water leaking out of the bottom of your dispenser door? If so you have a split in the tubing in your water dispenser door.
5.) Is your ice maker working? Often the water valve to your refrigerator becomes plugged up and you do not get sufficient water pressure 60 PSI to operate your water dispenser solenoid valve.
Since there is water that flows to the water dispenser, the water valve is working. Now, there's a spout that water flows from to the icemaker tray. Look for it. It's located on the back wall inside the freezer and maybe behind the icemaker tray. Check and see if it's frozen. If so, defrost your freezer by turning the temperature gauge to off position. Wait a while until it's defrosted, then turn it back on.
Next, make sure that the metal wire is in down position.
If that doesn't work, your icemaker maybe defective and needs replacement.
The gear that drives the mechanism that moves the ice out and allows fresh water to come in is damaged. In some cases the ice tray needs to come out so the ice cubes in the system can be removed by letting them actually turn back to water. Once you have cleaned it of old ice, try it again. Most likely a waste of time though.
What I have done to save money is find an old refrigerator someone wants to toss and pull the ice maker out. Chances are they have the same plug and wiring. Better if you just go get a new ice maker unit from where they sell parts for your refrigerator. It is easy to remove. usually about three screws or so. about two on top and one or more on the bottom side.
