Having trouble starting my Bobcat in cold weather. I think I may need to change the alternator. Do you have any information on what is required to do this?
I already know i need an alternator. I just need instructions on how to change it out. Not asking me questions on why i suspect the alternator needs to be changed. Just need to know how to do it.
Why do you suspect the alternator? Have you checked the output? Put a meter across the battery terminals when running at fast idle and it should be 14.5volts and no less than 13. Poor cold start is usually the heater plugs/ failed heater plug timer or poor battery strength. Start at the beginning and see if the alternator is working OK, then work through the rest. Test the heater plug supply by putting the meter from the plug supply cable to ground when the switch is in cold start position. Should have 12v at least. Make sure both battery cables have good clean connections at both ends to chassis or starter. Most cold start problems can be fixed by careful maintenance and basic systems checks.
