I believe I gave you the wrong info, I don't have a flat panel APEX. It is the regular rounded screen. I don't know if this will change your answer, but I sure appreciate your help. (I was asking how to turn off closed captioning.)
You should have its remote control to shut off the close caption function. If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one.
To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability? Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the site http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/ Check this site too. http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/ Universal remote controls are available at most of the electronic spare part selling shops.

Press menu on the remote. Press the cursor up or down button untill the word CC is highlighted. Press the cursor right button to select Closed Caption 1. You will likely have to do this with the original remote. A universal remote may not allow you to do this.

On the 27" TruFlat the closed caption button is hidden within the DVD buttons. You have to press it multiple times to shut off closed caption. It seems to have multiple sources for closed captions. Press the button until no source appears on the screen. ITS CONTROLED AT THE REMOTE CONTROL - NOT ON THE ON-SCREEN TV MENUS. Good Luck
SOURCE: How do I get to closed captioning on the TV?
You will need the original remote. The TV/CAP/TEXT button turns it on and off. The CH.1/2 button switches between channel 1 and 2 of the closed captioning.
SOURCE: I do not know how to turn off the closed
I have a Samsung 46 in TV. Here are my problems:
1. I do not have the remote that came with the tv.
2. I can't figure out how to get cc off the screen. I have a universal remote with no button for "cc". The directions mention to go into MENU, highlight SETUP menu, Highlight the PREFERENCES menu, then press the SELECT button, highlight the CAPTION menu, then press SELECT. The CAPTION menu appears. Then highlight the setting you wish to change. The Caption item in the Preferences menu alllows you to turn cc on and off.......
The problem is the universal remote does not allow you to use any Preferences menue or Caption menu.....
Suggestions???????????????????????????

Hey, on the JVC remote there is also a " C.C. " button
and it's located above the volume. Clicking this will allow you to set
the closed caption to off. you can't turn it off from the menu button.
Cheers
