Black box in bottom of picture

I was trying to remove some channels and somehow I ended up with a black box in the bottom of the picture. The strange thing is that it only shows up on analog channels and not on the digital channels

I just changed from Comcast Cable to Verizon Fios. Since the change I am unable to get a full picture on Fox News. There is a narrow horizontal picture with 1-2" black bands across the top and...

This is a function of your set-top box (STB), and has nothing to do with the TV. I know several FiOS users with the same trouble, and it's annoying but there isn't anything you can do to "fix" it. What is really strange is that the screen size can change even on the same channel, depending on the particular program being broadcast. It has to do with the aspect ratio of the programming from the provider.

Curing the "black box" on some TV channels

Here's the symptom: A mysterious black box covers some or most of the picture on your TV, but not all the time. It may not show up on all channels, or sometimes it disappears only to come back later.

No, it's not the picture tube, it's your closed-captioning. Somehow your TV has been set to "text mode", and the screen is being cleared for text that isn't there. On channels or shows where captions aren't being broadcast, there's no box. But the box returns when captioning is being sent.

Many TV set remote controls have a single button to set closed-caption modes, so it's easy to set a TV to "text" without knowing it. (Especially when you have kids who love to press buttons!) Then when the box pops up, it's a mystery.

Simply press the captioning button on the remote, or use the set's menu, to cycle through the settings until you turn captions off. No more box!

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A RCA 27 INCH TRUE FLAT TV AFTER HAVING IT FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH IT STARTS HAVING A BIG BLACK BOX ON THE SCREEN SO THAT YOU CAN NOT SEE THE PICTURE BUT YOU CAN CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND GET A...

Somehow you have enabled the Closed Captioning mode. Work your way through the menus to turn it off and the problem will be resolved. The channels that come in normally are not transmitting the closed captioning information, thus no CC black box.

The lower half of the screen is a black box on one channel

Check your closed-captioning settings. You probably have it set for "text". Make sure you turn captioning off and the problem should clear up.

Black menu-like box randomly appears, covering the picture

This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?

Black box appears in TV screen

The problem with the black box happened to me. I had pushed the subtitle button on my remote by mistake. Interestingly enough, as soon as I pushed the SUBTITLE key again, on the remote, the black boxes disappeared.

It also says CC which means closed captioned-- So the bottom on my remote is Subtitle, and then on the subtitle button is cc...

I hope this helps

Setting up my freeview box- NO CHANNELS FOUND

Hi.

The cable & wireless system is not capable of picking up the digital freeview frequencies.
Idealy you need to put a new aerial on the roof,
If this is not possible try an indoor aerial that you to plug in to the mains electrical supply.
