After initial surge at full pressure, pressure drops to hose pressure

Starts fine, runs fine, after 1-2 seconds full pressure, it drops way down to approx hose pressure.

Loose impeller or broken part inside casing, the pressure relies on the casting being made to have a very close tolerence with the impellers movement. if a wall inside the casting is broken away from the original position that it has to be in order to create the pressure constantly. or the impeller could have lost its key or the nut that holds in place came loose and it spins but not enough to maintain any real pressure.

SOURCE: No pressure in the pressure washer

Leaving the hose on shouldn't cause a problem so don't panic. It sounds like you could just have a dirty nozzle. Try sticking a pin or something in the end of the nozzle (machine not running) and giving it a clear out. also if it is a two peice gun, split it and tap the squirting part on something clean like a workbench to clear any debris that might have got in there.

SOURCE: Pressure

This is usually a problem with the "dump valve" defective in not being able to hold the pressure but only able to release it prematurely as it should only do so when to much pressur is built up inline. Only recommend qualified pump tech. But check pump oil level and add 10w 30 pump oil if needed and retry. Also see my TIPS AND TRICKS ON PAGE

SOURCE: Electric Karcher pressure washer surging when turned on

Dear firenutt681,
One simple thing you can do, is to check for leaks. Check if hose at machine is leaking. Check gun if it is leaking. You can also check if water still comes out of lance nozzel. These leaks however so small, will cause the machine to surge.
Another reason is due to a faulty SPILL VALVE. This spill valve( often called CONTROL VALVE) will contract when the gun is closed. When it contracts under the enclosed pressure it will switch off the machine by means of a Micro Switch. Now if this Spill valve is faulty it will loose its compression under pressure and puts on the micro switch again. This can be seen once in a while or more frequent, as in your case. I sometimes do service Spill Valves, but mostly I replace them with a new one. I do not know the model number of your machine, but normally you have to open the cover and you should spot the spill valve on the head. Most probably you see a thick wire or a cap containing the micro swith. If you find the micro switch, you have found the spill valve. Sometimes it is a bit hard to pull out the spill valve. Myself, in various Karcher models I remove the spill valve by trying to feed water and put on a bit the machine. In this way the spill valve will be spitted out.
Another reason which makes your machine surge, is leakage from from the detergent inlet.
If you do not see no leakages at all....then for sure it is the SPILL VALVE.
If you cannot do this job yourself or you do not find spare parts...you can continue using the machine as it is...but before closing the gun...switch off the electricity. I only recommend this in an emergency. You do this so that you do not leave the machine surging. This surge will for sure damage the electric motor and the capacitor (assuming it is single phase).
Regards,
Fulltech.

SOURCE: Pressure washer starts then shuts down in 2 seconds

hey mate,

It sounds like your bypass valve/unloader valve is sticking when pressure builds up in the lance, hose and head the pressure cleaner changes to a recirculate mode so it does not blow out hoses or seals or causes any damage to the unit, the bypass valve is the component that activates this sequence if that valve is stuck it will just try to continue to create pressure which in turn puts load on the engine and stalls it...

That is why it starts up straight away and only when it builds up pressure is when the engine stalls.

You would be best taking this to a qualified pressure cleaner technician as there are alot of little parts and orings plus the the head will need cleaning up and the bypass valve lubed, they may not of seen this at the service as it is hard to test a unit without the suited hose and lance... Often use will help this problem when a unit sits for a period of time that will cause issues such as this!!!

Regards
Brad:)

It could be a few things, initially it sounds like simple fuel starvation, remove the fuel filter in the tank and replace, check the fuel hoses, and the primer hoses if fitted for cracks or leakage.

Hi i have a k3.65 jubilee model when switched on it constantly surges and the water pressure is not as good as it was its only 10 months old.any advice

Have the hose pipe running into a bucket/container and use another short length of hose from the pressure washer to **** the water out of the bucket, that way if the bucket is full when you start, any drops in mains pressure wont affect the pressure washer as their should always be a reservoir or water to keep constant pressure.( you may need to prime the suction hose first, just hold the 2 hoses together in the bucket of water with pressure washer on)
Any questions ask

Karcher Power Washer that surges up and down with water pressure.

Before you start it up:
1. Disconnect the high pressure hose 2. Connect the water supply and turn on 3. Make sure water is flowing through the pump
Start the motor, run for about 10 seconds and then turn off.
Turn off the water supply, connect the high pressure hose, turn water back on, start the motor and away you go.

Pressure surge on and off for 2 seconds w/ new Karcher

It can be one of three conditions,
  1. The water supply in is not sufficient
  2. The pump oil is low
  3. The seals are bad in the pump.
I would check the first one first as this is the most common problem.
The water supply hose should be a high volume hose of at least 1/2 inch but 5/8 inch or greater is best.
