Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for prewind loading. Film rewinds as each shot is exposed. Built-in motor for automatic winding/rewinding. Film advance: Automatic. To rewind the film mid-roll, press the two film rewind buttons simultaneously for one second. The two buttons are marked with a red film symbol, and double as the Auto Exposure Bracketing button to the left of the viewfinder and the Aperture/Exposure Compensation button to the right of the control panel.

The film is completely rewound when a blinking "E" shows in the control panel.

it is likely that this model of camera spins the entire roll onto the take-up spool, and then slowly rewinds one frame at a time until the last picture is taken. Then it has already almost rewound,

This shows up when you load the film. The cameras digital counter counts up to the number of pictures available, and counts downward each picture taken.

Usually when you finish exposing a roll of film, you rewind it until you are sure it is all wound into the cassette. There is a change in the sound as the end of the roll leaves the camera. An exposed roll would have no film sticking out of the cassette. A new unexposed roll will have a bit of film sticking out of the cassette to pull across the ack to the take up roll.

The film should auto rewind when it reaches the last picture and its been taken.

I have used left/right as if you are holding the camera ready to take pictures.
I have included the instructions to rewind the finished film.

!/ Press and hold the film rewind button button on the right side of the camera base.
2/ Fold out the rewind crank top left of camera and turn it in the direction of the arrow.
3/ Once the pressure eases, the film is completely wound into the cassette.
4/ Lift up the film rewind knob top left of camera and pull it out to open the back cover. Now the film cassette can be taken out.
5/ Do this in a place away from direct sunlight.

It could be that there is a broken or missing gear in the rewind. It will spin but not catch. Sometimes when film is loaded it, is not drawing the film across and missing a gear, so it seems like your taking photos and its not. If you sent it to minolta, good luck, they were bought out by Konica, and probably didnt' do a thorough analysis of it.

There are 2 things that can cause that problem. Many times it is caused by the user pulling too much film out of the film cartridge and laying it across the film plane, causing it to bunch up on the take-up roller when the camera back is closed.

Make sure the film tip extends no further than the orange indicator in the back of the camera.

If that is not the cause, there is probably a defect in the clutch that flips back and forth each time the camera winds the film. Sometimes they bind up and cause the camera to go into the rewind mode early. It would need to be looked at by a qualified camera technician to determine if that is the problem.

You can do this by setting the command dial on the left side to the last position turning it clockwise. off,p,tv,av,m,a-dep,ISO, rewind. A second button must be pushed at the lower left rear of the display, the smaller button

Hm. Well, the way this camera works is actually very clever. When you first load a film into it, it winds the entire film out of the cassette and into the camer. As each shot is taken, the film is rewound back into the film cassette. The advantage of this is that if the back of the camera is accidentally opened, the shots which have already been taken are already safely back in the film cassette and will not be damaged by the light ingress. However, your camera is behaving strangely. I would check that the electrical contacts where the film cassette goes in are clean. You can clean them using a cotton bud moistened with methylated spirits.
