Was having some difficulty with volume control but would respond after pressing the volume button a few times. But now it goes to full and stays stuck there.
Fault with main board. Contact any service technician. Its auto-volume control circuit [electronic circuit] should be checked. If the firmware has been corrupted, this kind of fault can occur too. If so, a firmware update might be necessary. Try a reset first to this set, and check. To reset it into its factory settings, you have to enter its service mode option.
To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done
SOURCE: Remote volume control for Sharp Aquos 42inch LCD not working
User 'rapolley' is absolutely right. One can cycle through the functions to access different options, ie. 'TV', 'Audio', 'DVD', etc. I stumbled upon this solution when I thought my 'Menu' button wasn't working. All I had to do is cycle through the 'Functions' and choose 'Menu' once I get to 'TV'. Thanks!

It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.
I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.
Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.
This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.
SOURCE: Panasonic remote and volume/channel buttons do not work
My son put a penny in the SD card slot of my Pansonic flat screen tv. I finally got the penny out but now the volume and tv controls do not work. I can change the channels through my cable box but that is it. The volume does not work on my cable remote or the flatscreen. What do you suggest I do to fix this problem?? Thanks, Josh

Did you have any luck? My LG is stuck in demo mode too. Menu button doesn't work, and keylock was on as default so I can't use the buttons on the TV itself.
