The nylon drive gear on Craftsman Garage Door keep stripping

The nylon drive gear on my Craftsman Garage Doormodel 139.533SRT keeps stripping the teeth off of it. I have replaced it twice now. Once replaced it works for a couple of months and then strips again. Any advise to what may be causing the problem

The most common reason for this is a door that is too heavy. Release the door from the opener and lift it by hand. If it is heavy to you it is heavy for the opener. Be sure after replacing the gear to lubricate it heavily with the lubricant supplied with the gear. You can't apply too much.

Motor comes on and only moves door about 1/2 inch, it keeps running without any further movement in door until it is turned off.

You need to remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and most likely you will find it is stripped. It will be obvious.

My garage door only opens up about 2" and stops.

Check for a broken door spring and remove the cover from the motor unit and check for a stripped drive gear. The gear is white nylon and it will be obvious if it is bad.

Garage door opens about one foot and remains there.

Check the door springs. You could have a broken spring. Also remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It is possibly stripped. This is a good time to release the door from the opener and operate it by hand to see just how heavy it has become.
