Gateway screen comes up; optical and (new) hard drive spin up, both drive lights light up during this time, fan spins up and air moves out of the side vent continously but still nothing but a blank screen. During boot I can press f10 and then press pause key to read screen- 2gb memory recognized and passed, drives recognized, T5500 processor detected, system bios shadowed, video bios shadowed, mouse initialized, bios version 77.06, system id = (blank). All this and nothing but a blank screen afterwards and no activity.

Still not booting. Replaced thermal paste on cpu. Fan is working. Just getting blank screen after initial Gateway screen then all drive activity stops and the only indicator light (besides battery charge and power) is the wireless lighw which never shuts off unless I put the laptop to sleep. I really need help in figuring out this problem to get this running for my grandson.

If you have an operating system disc that came with your computer try putting it is and see if you can load the disc. If you can go to the repair screen after it loads all files. When you are at command prompt type: chkdsk /r

It will try to repair operating system. When done type "Exit" and restart. If you can't load the operating system disc you might be having a graphics card problem. Go to the manufacturer's website and check on their forums for your problem. Hope this helps

Try going to this link and see if anything there is of assistance.
    http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Me...

Try hitting the F11 key on start-up to see if you can get to a restore screen

Otherwise it seems that there is a motherboard issue because it isn't recognizing the hard drive.

Let me know how you make out.

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

My Gateway Gt 5220 will not turn on. Technicaly it does turn on ex: hard drive spin processor click couple time power brick and processor fan spins hard drive light flickers couples time and cd drive will...

sounds like your system is booting up and running due to the hold power shutdown procedure. you might try replacing the video card or adding one if your video is integrated.

Sometimes the unit will not power up right away. the lights will be on and you will hear the drive spin and stop, then blank screen. have to remove and replace battery several times b/f it will come back...

Power problem with-in the motherboard, the spinning sound is not hard drive, it is the processor fan that spin in boot-up then stops. You have faulty motherboard chips. required to bring it to repair shop for preventive/repair.

Yes, if the CPU/motherboard will not POST (Power On Self Test), then changing the CPU is the only thing that you have not tried.

Laptop fails to boot. no post beeps no video Power light comes on Hard Drive light comes on briefly and the Drive can be heard spinning up then stopping. Laptop was originally purchased in North Korea

Clean first its ram module edge connector with soft eraser. But disengaged first its battery, power source and completely shutdown.

Then put it back and try to boot. If this doesn't help let me know . Leave a comment.

Gateway MT6451 Does not turn on

Probably the mainboard or flaky power supply.

I'd start by replacing the power supply. Buy one you can use in a new machine, though... or "borrow" one from another machine.

No video output, nobeeps from motherboard, fan comes on and hard drive spins.Gateway gt4022

Hello,
You might want to get your ram checked. Not all the time does a computer beeps when a memory is bad. Also, if you have tested the memory ok, then try another power supply, if that one is faulty, it will not be giving enough power to show on monitor. If that still isn't the problem, then it could be your video card. The way you will know if it's video card is that the keyboard light will be lighted but nothing will show on the screen. To test that press the num lock or caps lock key to see if it gets lighted. if it does, then the problem would be the video card.

Thanks and good luck. Hope this solves your problem.
