Are you using hydralic fluid (not eng oil) in her?
Can you let it run on blocks for a bit - drain and re-fill transmission?

SOURCE: need owner's and service manuals for John Deere Model 317/

First off, Mowerman's response was incorrect about the age of a JD 317.  They were made from 1979 to 1982.
You can only get manuals either through here:  http://techpubs.deere.com/deere/Default.aspx  or from a dealer.  They're expensive.  You can find them on ebay and also here: http://www.ssbtractor.com/tractor_manual_display.cgi?m=John%20Deere&o=317%20Hydrostatic but I haven't used that site.

SOURCE: How do I remove the PTO clutch from a John Deere

Locate and disconnect the power supply cord from the clutch. Remove the bolt, washer and retainer from the center of the clutch, It should now slide off the end of the crankshaft provided you have previously removed anything such as body parts or braces that would be in the way. In some instances penetrating oil must be used to help free it up. When you reassemble it, it is a good idea to use a little bit of anti-seize on the engine shaft in case you have to remove it in the future.

My blades won't engage on my john deere d155. I've changed the pto switch, and pto clutch. I've checked the voltage and have 12 volts all the way to the clutch.

if you have voltage at the clutch it pretty much has to come on unless it is burnt up. possibly a bad connection where it plugs into the clutch. or the wires going into the housing of the clutch may have been broken.

Cannot engage parking brake on John Deere L108 mower. Clutch and foot brake work fine. Cannot lift orange lever to set. What can I do? Thanks

If new to the unit...

To set parking brake, you FULLY depress and hold the brake/clutch pedal, engage and hold park brake lock, release brake/clutch pedal. You may need to adjust seat forward.

Else...
If the brake lock won't move when brake/clutch is fully depressed, check for obstruction in brake lock linkage.

Does the John Deere LX172 mower have an electric clutch and if so how do I operate it. I can't get my tractor to move.

Hi Bill, you electric clutch only engages your pto. The clutch for the Transmission just releases tension on an idler for the drive belt. Do you still have spring resistance on the clutch pedal?

How to replace pto clutch on John Deere x320

Removal and replacement fairly straight forward, you just need to prevent the engine crankshaft from turning. This can done either holding the flywheel or using a piston stop. Also some clutches have a set of flats that a 1-3/8 open end wrench will fit.

When reinstalling the center bolt torque to 50-55 ft-lbs. Also make sure the anti-rotation device is engage into clutch assembly or it will rip the wires out at the first startup.

John deere 2010 tractor. pto grinds and wont engage

The PTO usually has a clutch that has to be engaged so that you can select the PTO rotation setting. I had a problem like that on my tractor and all it needed was a little adjustment on the PTO clutch lever, so it could disengage the PTO gearbox properly.
