On some machines there a lever on the right side of the machine you can use to remove the face plate and just raise it up to cover the feed dogs. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: feed dog is stuck

I have the same problem...this is a work around, not a fix. You need a small flat-head screwdriver. 1. Remove the clear bobbin cover. 2. Make sure the feed dog switch is in the DOWN position. 3. Slide the screwdriver under the feeddogs from inside the bobbin area & lift the feed dogs. 4. While holding the feed dogs in the up position, return the feed dog knob to the up position. You have to do this every time you put the feed dogs down...bummer, but I can find no broken part or adjustment that corrects this. If it's inside the machine body, I don't mess with it... I did take off the bottom plate in the feed dog area..one screw holds it.... there is nothing there to indicate a problem.

SOURCE: feed dogs

I was having trouble with this too, but found more help online...you have to switch the dog feed back to 'up'....then turn the needle wheel toward you....the feed dog should snap back into place :)
Hope this helps :D

SOURCE: feed dogs stuck in down position

The feed dogs come up as soon as you start sewing again. Just make sure they're in the up position and start sewing.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Stylist 513 & I cannot get the feed dogs raised.

The model 513 Singer has two gears which operate the feeding mechanism. If one of these gears is broken, the machine will run except the feed dogs will not move. This is a very common problem with this model.

SOURCE: Hi, have tried to use buttonhole feature on singer 4423. Dog feed teeth have dropped - won't come back up and the material isn't feeding though. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Reverse feed dogs on Singer 4423 Remove extension table so you can see switch on BACK of machine @ left side. Flip switch to raise feed dogs up. If machine actually sewing in reverse - check n Buttonhole adjustment. Reset it (located bottom right side machine) Jimmy

Dose the bernina 140 do embroidery

The Bernina Patchwork 140 does not do embroidery from a file (either built-in or external). You can do some free-hand embroidery by lowering the feed dogs. Depress the feed dog position button on the right hand side of the machine. It's below the balance dial and between the foot control socket and the power cord socket.

I hope this helps. ManualsLib has the manual for the Bernina 140; it's a shared manual with the Activa 130 and 131.

Janome JF1004 - Lowering the feed dogs

Consult your owner's manual on page 30. Your machine requires an accessory called a "darning plate" that covers the feed dogs.

When the embroidery unit is on the machine the "the feed dogs are raised lower them" comes on when I go to the embroidery edit or embroidery on my lcd screen and the feed dogs are down.

The problem you've explained isn't totally clear. I'll try to give help on your problem.
On embroidery machines the feed dogs are suppose to be down while operating in the embroidery mode.
When you change programs to embroidery the sewing machine recognizes this mode and automatically makes the feed dogs go into the down position.
If you are attempting to operate embroidery and your feed dogs don't go under the plate then: Try the switch that is under the storage unit and switch it to free arm.

My SE400 keep bending or breaking needles while trying to embroidery.

Machine breaks needles
1.make sure you are using the right needle for your type of sewing machine.
Most machines can use generic Schmetz needles. There are cases where the machine will only use ones specified in the owners manual.
2.the presser foot may not be installed properly
3.use the correct needle for the type of fabric you are working with. To fine of needle on heavy fabric or to course a needle on silk or jersey can damage fabric.
4.let the feed dogs guide the fabric & the feed dogs will work with the presser foot .
5.the needle is not all the way in -push all the way up against the stop

Someone left a virtually NEW Singer Quantum LE, Model SX, sewing machine in the garage of the house we bought (Everything looks to be in pristine condition, even the needle pack is unopened). I am trying...

Oh, lucky you! I'm envious!

No, the stitch length will not have any effect on the feed dog, ever. Check the instructions for raising and lowering the feed dog. I believe on your model, you need to remove the sewing table arm (the manual will show you how) and the control should be on the lower left hand side. What probably happened is that the person who used it last was doing embroidery with the machine. You leave the feed dog down when doing embroidery and let the embroidery arm direct the fabric and embroidery hoop. Thus, you have to raise the feed dog again to go back to regular stitching.

I have a different Singer embroidery machine than your model, but they are similar. If you need more help, let me know. I'll upload pictures or a video showing you what I have to do. But the manual should get you through it quite well.

Happy sewing, and learn about embroidery. Do some google searches and check out some sewing magazines on machine embroidery. You have a goldmine at your disposal that will do gorgeous work on embellishing your clothes, home decor, all kinds of things. There are a lot of beautiful designs not just to buy, but free downloads as well. Learn about the machine and what it can do. You're a lucky woman-that machine sells for over $1000, I believe!

on the backside of your free arm there is a small lever which can be moved to lower the feed dogs.
When you want them back up move the lever the other way.NOTE!!
They will not go up until the machine has made one revolution.
