Mine is doing the same. GE site says microwave may be overheating due to blocked vents. I didn't find any blockage. If I reset my clock (the display goes blank when the oven shuts down) the oven works again. However, after a few uses, it does the same thing. Not sure if this helps. We bought a Kenmore oven today because we figure it will cost too much to fix the GE compared to a new oven price.

Sounds like you don't have proper microwave-compatible plates or mugs. Must have lead in them, or in the paint (!?!) Try a plastic plate or even a paper plate. I can't think of anything that would make the microwave oven do that, UNLESS it's a microwave/convection oven, in which case, the convection heater must be coming on whenever you are trying to just use the microwave function.
The plate wasn't microwave safe or has a crack in it that had moisture in it to cause it to split. A new pyrex type glass plate will get it going again.
It could be a faulty magnetron, which is responsible to warm up the food. If that is the case, then the cost price of that part is quite expensive and you are better off replacing the whole unit rather than spending money on buying the parts.Hope this helps.
Hello, I had the same problem, and just fixed mine. Start by turning on your microwave (on mine, the light turned on and timer worked, but the fan nor the plate turned)... push the door upward and see if the microwave turns on... (mine did). so far so good. open the door and take the upper hinge cap off with flat head screwdrive. take the door off and place a small washer on the bottom hinge, put the door back on. your microwave should be good now. essentially, the door just needs to be pushed up a bit so it will work.
good luck, hope that works for you...
Otherwise, the magnetron will be ruined, and that drives up the repair cost.
