Heating element on B&D Spacemaker ODC325 coffeemaker quits

I have determined that the problem is the thermol switch that is mounted on the heating element that heats the water. I can make the switch reset but when it opens again it will not reset. (I assume that this is a safety switch to keep the thing from overheating so I do not want to bypass it.)

Are new ones available?

The part number is 36TMH0110603L320-32F (cuts off between 320 and 332F), which I can't find for sale. There is a slightly different one available, however, which cuts off between 315 and 350F, but I can't find an outlet that sells singles. If you can find someone who sells individual parts with serial no: 36TMH0110539L315-50F let me know.

I broke down and ordered the part I found at an electrical component
warehouse. It was fairly simple to install and the coffeemaker has
worked great every day since (over two months now, a full pot every
morning), but since the minimum order was 15 cutoff switches I now have
14 that I won't need for (hopefully) quite a while. If anyone else
wants one I'll drop it in the mail for $10, including postage, to
anywhere in Canada or the continental US. I'll even include detailed
instructions and graphics. There is minimal soldering involved, but it
is strictly in-line and open so there's no circuit-board work. I did
    everything on the kitchen counter.

Will not heat water

You have a bad heating element. This is the core function of your coffeemaker and renders it useless for anything but a nice warming plate.

I recommend replacing the coffeemaker.

In the future, make sure you do not add water to the reservoir unless the coffeemaker has been turned of for at least five minutes. This will help prolong the life of the heating element.

The heating element will naturally degrade over time. But, it can incur sudden damage when the reservoir is refilled with water too soon - while the element is still hot. Because of the simple design, if the coffeemaker is on, then both the warming plate's heating element and the reservoir's heating element are on. So, after a brewing cycle is complete, the reservoir's heating element stays on. Without any in the reservoir to keep it cool, the heating element superheats. So, if water is put in the reservoir while the coffeemaker is on or before the element has adequately cooled, the sudden burst of steam from the water contacting the element can be quite violent.

My coffe maker will not dispense water?

The heating element has gone bad. Since it is not a user-serviceable part, I recommend replacing the coffeemaker.

Heating element replacement

Yes, it does sound like the heating element needs to be replaced. However, this coffeemaker is not built to be serviceable in that regard.

Have the older style ODC325 in motorhome. The heating unit went out and bought replacement (used) w/o manual &/or mounting brackets. Need to get oldest one uninstalled w/o breaking brackets so we can...

Raise the entire unit a half-inch or so by lifting from the bottom, then slide the whole thing forward. It drops into slots in the side brackets when you slide it into them.

Water only heats to 160 degrees on my 12 cup Spacemaker Black & Decker, how can I increase the temp to 200 degrees.

I work for Black and Decker customer support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-231-9786.

If the unit isn't heating the water past 160 degrees, it can't be adjusted. The design of the coffee maker doesn't allow for temperature adjustments. The unit may need to be replaced. Unfortunately, the unit can't be repaired. The unit comes with a one year warranty from the date of purchase. Please call the number above so that we can determine your warranty eligibility and help you any way we can.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Allen screw B&D spacemaker ODC325

By sticking a small screwdriver where the pin is inside the torx type fastener, I was able to break the pin. Then a torx 10 or 15 will easily unscrew the screw. Maybe an allen wrench would as well, if it would fit.

A rather costly 35 dollars or so (plus shipping) heating element incl thermostat is available, if indeed that is the problem. You might as well find someone selling a used unit on ebay, after paying that much.

Odc325

I haven't been able to find the base heating element for sale anymore. Best I can suggest is finding one on ebay that still has a working base heater but the water heater no longer works.
