Follow the following steps to resolve Wifi issues on your Laptop. Open Control Panel - Select Network and Sharing Center - Manage Wireless Networks - Highlight your Wifi Network - Right Click and Remove. Reset the TCP/IP stack of the windows system with limited connection status.
To turn your wireless network adapter off through the Network Control Panel:
- In Windows XP, click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections.
- In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Cnnections.
- In Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet >Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings.
2. Right-click on the wireless network connection and choose Disable.
Your Wifi card on your Acer desktop shouldnt necessarily need to be turned on. What OS are you running? Windows 7?
IF you click start, control panel, network and sharing center, look on the right and you should see an option called "change adapter settings". That menu should show your network devices and if you have a wireless network device, whether USB or internal, it will show up here.
If you see your wireless adapter here, you can right click it with the mouse and choose Connect \ Disconnect
Keep in mind, if you have an ethernet cable connected to the PC, that will usually act as the primary network device. This is the typical default but can be changed. There is network activity icon in the bottom right of the taskbar. You can get to network and sharing center by right clicking the icon and selecting that option.
Open Network and Sharing Center, Manage Wireless Networks, Remove your Home one. Exit Network and Sharing Center. reboot machine, Try to reconnect to your home one. If that fails, Release and renew IP : http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/networking/IP_renew.html
People are always asking me this question, so I'm going to share on Facebook too. Use any computer that is currently connecting to the router wirelessly to obtain the code. Assuming you are running windows 7, click the wireless icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your desktop--the one that shows signal strength. You should see a link at the bottom to the Network and Sharing Center to pick. From that link, you should be able to see how the laptop is connecting to the router. Click on the wireless connection to bring up the connection properties. On that window, click the "wireless properties" button. This will bring up the connection window. Switch to the security tab and check the "show characters" box. Your security key will then be displayed there.
There's usually a button somewhere on the keyboard or above the keyboard to turn the wifi on and off. If you can't find it try checking the manual for your laptop.
Hi Kate.Wifi can be turned on Windows (or Mac) via settings as well. You don't have to use the button. In Windows go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing center > Connect to network. But you have to install drivers from your notebook manufacturer first. Should came with your notebook on CD disk.
don't you have a WiFi button on your laptop to disable WiFi?
we have to use the touchpoint on the top of keyboard to turn off.
Swith is sometimes SIDEWAYS also depending on the model .
Go into the network and sharing centre then change adaptor settings right click the wireless adaptor and choose disable. this should stop it - just remember you did it if you ever need to use it

The best way to do this is to go to the Network and Sharing center, look upper left and click on "Manage Wireless Networks" click on the wireless network connection you want to keep from connecting automatically and uncheck the box to connect automatically like the picture below shows. Hope this helps
Your dell bluetooth must be turned on before able to pairing with other compatible device. Please check bluetooth switch on your laptop keyboard ( if there is you must turn it on also). Most of bluetooth devices are compatible. So please try again your bluetooth pairing .
To activate the wifi , you must covered at active wifi area / Wlan ( hotspot), then click your internet connection on right below corner ( beside battery sign) and open network and sharing center, then activate your wifi . This wifi will not work if you are outside wifi covered area.
It's difficult to tell, but there seems to be a small switch on the front, that may activate the wireless connection. If that isn't it, you can usually access the modems through control panel, under 'network and internet,' and the wireless assistant, or possibly the network and sharing center; if the wireless modem is disabled, right clicking on the icon will usually give you an option to activate it, or you can connect to a network through the network and sharing center, as well as detecting networks, and that will tell you whether or not the thing is working.
