How do I load maps
Your Garmin should have maps factory installed that load when you turn it on. If you want to update the maps you can 1) take the unit to a Garmin dealer to get updated maps or 2) Connect your unit to PC or laptop with internet through a usb cable and go online to Garmin.com. You must install a small program in the computer- Garmin Communicator - so your unit can communicate with the website. Go to Map Updates and download the update into your gps. You can update one time each year. Hope this helps.

This solution works for more than the 760. i think it will work for all 6xx and 7xx series.
a simple solution to convert Google maps to Garmin routes and is found here:
http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/gmaptogpx/
In essence, you create your route in Google maps and then click the recommended url bookmark.
Save the GPX file to the Garmin device and from "My Data" (under Tools) convert the file to a route. You are done.

SOURCE: garmin 765 turns on and sais loading maps then
I've had this issue on my Nuvi 1300, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try that out and see if you have any better luck.
SOURCE: the garmin 2620 will not load maps
You are caught in a loop most likely caused by a failed microdrive. Search Garmin 2620 cornice for a thread that is likely to provide the information about the failure you are experiencing. In short, if it is the Cornice drive that has failed you will find it very difficult to repair, if not impossible depending on your level of expertise and ability to find a used part for repair as the drives needed are no longer manufactured or readily available.
