it could be because its closing down lots of programmes,some of them run in the background and you dont see them.
trying cleaning it up as in disk clean up or defrg if you have it,pluse get rid of any stuff you dont need anymore as in pics and music.
This can be a number of things but usually over time the system gets clogged up with junk stuff. The best thing is to save all that you want to a separate drive then reinstall operating system ie windows.

Which I personally use and recommend the friends.After downloading run all of its tools one by one except Internet Optimizer, to clean all the junk and error files from your computer.
Start--> Programs-->Accessories-->System tool-->Disk clean up click choose the option and click ok after that one dialog box will open check all the options and click delete it may help your computer
If u have more than one anti-virus programs i will recommended that u use only one program that will make your computer slow
your computer should be slow becaue u have too much stuff in your hard drive
Download CCleaner and scan the computer and recovery files it may help you
Run a defrag on all your drives and clean up temp files. There is a free utility that cleans up pretty good and it's called CCleaner.
It's very important to defrag the HDD though.
