There could be several reasons why your fax machine is unable to send long-distance faxes. Here are a few possible causes to consider:
Phone line issues: Long-distance faxes may require a stronger and more stable phone connection than local faxes. If there is interference or noise on the line, the fax machine may have difficulty communicating with the recipient's fax machine. You could try calling your phone company to check the line quality.
Fax settings: Check that your fax settings are correct, including the country code and area code. It's also possible that the recipient's fax machine has changed settings or is experiencing technical issues.
Busy phone lines: Long-distance fax transmissions may be affected by busy phone lines or heavy network traffic. You could try sending the fax at a different time, such as during off-peak hours.
Fax machine issues: Your fax machine may have a hardware or software issue that is preventing it from sending long-distance faxes. You could try resetting the machine to its default settings or contacting the manufacturer for assistance.
It's also worth noting that some businesses and organizations have implemented measures to prevent unsolicited faxes, such as blocking faxes from unknown or unapproved numbers. If you're still having trouble after checking the above factors, you could try contacting the recipient to ensure they are able to receive faxes from your number.
Pretty simple....some people when thy set up a number with the phone company only want it to be accessible from a certain area...for instance a number ( 1-800 ) could be set up to only allow calls from within the USA and not allow calls from outside the USA.
Dial the fax number in Japan with a regular phone. You hear how responsible you a fax from the other side? If you answer a fax can be heard, the more likely the issue is still in the phone company that gives you the link.
PLUG A CHEAP TELEPHONE INTO THE WALL OUTLET FOR THE FAX LINE AND SEE IF YOU STILL GET THE "OPERATOR VOICES".
IF YOU DO THEN YOUR PROB IS ON THE LINE OR WITHIN THE BUILDING YOUR IN..AND NOT WITH THE FAX. MACHINE.
I have had this issue as well faxing to any area code in general outside of my own. The only thing I found to work was manual faxing. This comes from the manual.
Dial manually from the handset 1. Load the document into the ADF. 2. Call the recipient on the handset. 3. When the recipient is ready(when you hear the fax sound), press Start Fax on the product control panel.
for these companies, try disconnecting the phone tremporarily to see if thsi is interferring just with these particular faxes. Sometimes if a company's fax is set to phone/fax, it may be trying to call you first beacuse ths would be the default settings. If it detects no phone it may by default accept your fax no problems. Hope this helps.
Other then why is it happening, Ask them simply to install it on all the machines. Sounds like a known problem that needs retrofitted. Sometimes after a machine is out, issues arise with sensor mountings not holding sensors, bushings make noise ect.
I am sure there is a kit they can provide for all the machines to upgrade them and resolve the problem permanently.
The reason it has not been done to all machines is they may be retrofitting as the problem shows up.
Call and see if they can install one on each machine.
Shouldn't ba a problem and they should be glad to avoid multiple trips to fix one or two.
