That sounds like an issue with Cinavia copyright protection and if the movies were not downloaded from a legitimate source the issue will continue and cannot be avoided. The only option you may have is to play the movies on another device such as an Xbox 360, chromecast, rocku, or other media player device.

You might have a faulty power cord . Try replacing the cord, or get a PS 3 Stan

Step 1:Connect Modem - Router - Computer (Wired)

Step 2:Open Router Setup by typing http://192.168.2.1 on the address bar of internet explorer

Step 3:On the Left click firewall

Step 4:Leave the Password blank and click submit

Step 5:Disable it and click apply changes

Step 6:Scan and connect in the Xbox/PS3/Wii

Step 7: Get the IP Address of the Xbox/PS3/Wii

Step 8:Open Router Setup in the Computer

Step 9:On the left under Firewall Click DMZ

Step 10:Enable the IP Address of the Xbox/PS3/Wii in it

Step 11:Click Apply Changes

Step 13:On the left Under Utilities click System settings

Step 14:Scroll down to the bottom

Step 15:Enable UPnP

Step 16:Click apply changes

Step 17:Test the connection ,Check the NAT

I was having problems with my PS3 as well I did the following

updated firmwire

Also I assign static ip address on my PS3 and forward ports used by PS3 to static IP address of PS3 on routers firewall.

If your still getting problems configure the PS3 to be in your DMZ.

DMZ will be under applications and gaming. Just look for that setting in your routers setup page and add your PS3 IP address to it.

try setting the console back to factory settings, i had the oposite problem, would play games but not movies. will it play blu-ray movies or regular? if it doesnt play blu-rays, your disc reader may have gone bad.

The blu-ray portion of your blu-ray drive has probably gone out. They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a three part laser (cd /dvd / blu-ray) so that's why your movies are still playing.

I looked at a few other posts and many suggest removing the bios battery. I would call Sony direct @ 1-800-345-SONY there's probably another master password for your version. If there is please post the info.

It's your blu-ray drive.

They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.

The laser is three part (cd / dvd / blu-ray). The blu-ray is usually first to go.

sounds like the blu ray diode is burnt.
Send it to Sony for warranty replacement

I suggest you have corrupt firmware within your PS3, and that your re-download and install the latest updates for your device.

Might I add that you should backup and important documents and data you have before performing this action.

Also, it takes around 2 hours to complete, and if this process is interrupted in anyway - your PS3 will be 100% unusable, and you will certainly have to return it to the manufacturer.
