Is ths service being offered by Road Runner? I assisted someone in getting his router specs however you need to contact their support site and an online chat required knowledge of the local cable company (not Time Warner in this case) and the city and state of service. In reviewing the Time Warner site they seem to need a 5 digit zip code starting at this link. The last time I found an online chat link asked about setting up a router got the requirements from a competent representative and sent them to the requester and from there he completed the job.
see this link for that request
Like him you need to do the router revision check so I can get the appropriate manual if you need help.
Go To DLINK
adn match the label on the bottom of your router to the pictures in the link and let me know your revision code in a comment to this problem. click on the picture if you need to download a copy of the manual -- this would be good because I could reference page numbers in instructions.
SOURCE: please help...internet won't connect
You may be running into a problem of your ISP only allowing one computer on the internet. while the internet is on can you access the internet from the desktop comcast originally setup? If so that is more then likely your problem.
I have comcast myself and they told me they do not allow home networks. I fixed that problem by using the mac address cloning feature in my router.
The setup cd is also junk, all you should really need to do is:
1. unplug modem, router, and turn off computers
2. Plug modem into router
3. Plug computers into router (don't worry about wireless right now)
4. Turn on modem, wait 20 seconds or so for lights to set,
5. Turn on router. again wait for lights to set
6. Turn on ONE computer that is hard wired into the router
7 Try to surf the net.
8. If successfull try to connect wireless computers (Without using cd) and see if they surf.
If not call comcast and see if your computers are trying to obtain real-world ip's instead of LAN ip's like they should.
If so, you'll need to enable DHCP on the router.
SOURCE: Linksysy asks for a network key (Wep key or WPA key)
1. Using a computer that is wired to the router, access the router's setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address field of your browser.
2. By default there is no username and password is admin.
3. Once you're in the setup page, click wireless then there is a sub tab there called wireless security.
4. You will find there the wireless key that is enabled in your router.

If you can connect directly via your modem, then the line up to your house is fine. So no problem with your ISP.
Since you changed from cable to DSL, you might have to re-configure your router.
Open a web browser, type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and log on to the web based router configuration page. (The default values are "admin" for username and "admin" for password)
Go to "Setup", choose "Basic" and review the entries there. You want to see it configured for "PPPoE".
Some DSL-based ISPs use PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) to establish Internet connections. If you are connected to the Internet through a DSL line, check with your ISP to see if they use PPPoE.
If they do, you will have to enable PPPoE.
User Name and Password: enter the User Name and Password provided by your ISP.
Connect on Demand: Max Idle Time. You can configure the Router to cut the Internet connection after it has been inactive for a specified period of time (Max Idle Time). If your Internet connection has been terminated due to inactivity, Connect on Demand enables the router to automatically re-establish your connection as soon as you attempt to access the Internet again.
If you wish to activate Connect on Demand, click the radio button.
In the Max Idle Time field, enter the number of minutes you want to have elapsed before your Internet connection terminates.
Keep Alive Option: Redial Period. If you select this option, the router will periodically check your Internet connection. If you are disconnected, then the Router will automatically re-establish your connection. To use this option, click the radio button next to Keep Alive.
In the Redial Period field, you specify how often you want the Router to check the Internet connection. The default Redial Period is 30 seconds.
When you have finished making changes to the screen, click the Save Settings button to save the changes, or click the Cancel Changes button to undo your changes.
