Why does my technics cd player cut off after every song instead of playing the cd all the way through? This problem just started a couple of days ago. Is there some setting I'm not aware of?

Also a few months ago my Technics turntable lost lost its sound. Turntable revolves and needle stays in grooves, but there's not an iota of volume. A friend of mine hooked up the components and he might not have gotten all the wires and colored cords in the right socket. I miss my records.

Turntable round cables need to be plugged into a "phono" input. Check behind your receiver....

This maybe due to overheating of some Sort.
Try taking it out of where it is where theres a good flow of air.
Then try running a cd.
Try Putting in a Cleaning cd, this maybe a fault with the laser.

Hi...

1st off , what I do with CD players is clean the rails that the laser assby runs on and treat the rail surface w/ liquid silicone.
Next pull all the cables to the CD assby and reseat them.
Clean the laser lens w/ pure alcohol and swab off till dry.
If there are any adjust pots , note where theyre set, rotate them a couple times and set them back to original set point.

this player uses a philips mechanism, spindle motor failure is very common on these mechanisms, yours may be on its way out. take the lid off and insert a cd and if you can hear the laser trying to read the cd without it spinning, it's definately the spindle motor.

First I think you should turn your player on and wait 5 - 40 minutes before before you start liste3ning music.
because electrolytic capasitors may be little broken and those can repair themselves but it takes a while.

Good rule of thumb is that If you don't use every day an old device
then you should give to it every time a soft start . like I mentioned earlier
turn power on and wait.

Second try to play music cd which don't have any scratches and without any copyprotections

Third Disconnect power cable

Then open device and try to clean all dust.

Look for hairs and other difficult to see objects uselly
you find at least one hair inside old cd player.
If hair is around disk spindle it maybe difficult to
remove.

Check that cd-disk makes good contact so remove even tiniest dust and hairs
between cd-player and copact-disk. It may be called spindle or what ever but
still try to clean it with Isopropyl alcohol and remove dust and filth.

Check laserlens and is there some dryed liquid stains if there is try to remove those
with Isopropyl alcohol and swabs. Don't use any force and you can tear a top of swab little longer
(about one inch) and you get swabs which are much easier to use these kind of delicate cleanings.

Lubricate every moving part with lithiumgreese don't make any mess.

This last fix is for most desperate ones.
Connect the power cable and push eject and be carefull because
you can get fatal electric shock.
Disconect power cable. You can use extension cord which have on/off powerswitch.
You can see six tiny trim pots.
First take photo of those pots so you can undo all changes.

Change only one pot and only about 1/8 of turn. Turn power on and test if you make it worst or better.
If you think you fixed the problem that is not the case ... yet.
Then you have to make finall test and play a lot of music cd:s and after that you have fixed the problem.

Make notes which cd:s and what track your player don't play properly and use those
cd:s to testing those trimpot changes.

You ever get a solution to this, mate?

I have the same freaki'n issue with mine all of a sudden. Suspect the power supply's not delivering enough power to rotate the spindle-motor anymore, cause if I take this motor out and connect it to a 1.5V battery, it runs...

let me know if you've found the solution please on: tobie dot steyn at gmail dot com.

I burned a CD on my PC to keep in my car and it plays OK in the car and on my PC, but does not play on my Technics SL-PD687 5 disc cd player. It's recorded in *.cda format and it's on a CD-RW. Any...

The problem with old CD Players are that they sometimes are a little fidgety when it comes to reading CDRs.

You could try burning a new CD on the lowest possible setting, say 2x or 4x.

Also try changing the CDR brand as some cheap CDRs are prone to not reading in old CD Drives.

Try using a regular CD-R (CD recordable - record only once) instead of a CD-RW (CD rewritable - rewrite multiple times). CD-RW use a different "ink" to write the data to the disc and can be re-recorded/erased a couple of times before it loses its ability to write effectively to it.

Good day - I moved for my work and upon

First clean the laser head with a Qtip and alcohol. It gotta be perfectly clean, so wipe with fresh brand name qtip and make sure there is not a single dust particle on it. You gotta remove the cabinet with star screwdriver. Your beam might be tired. First try with the clean up! Unplugg before opening!

Only plays some songs

The Shaker only plays songs in MP3 format.

If you Ripped (copied) CD's to your PC with Windows Media Player, the default settings are as WMA.

You will need to delete these and re-copy them to your PC, then transfer to the Shaker.

Best of Luck.
