NO - - signal did nothing to the set... Sounds like a shorted HOT (horizontal output transistor) and the feedback your hearing (chirp) is on the horz. transformer as it tries repeatedly to startup... Don't allow it to do that for too long...

again a good set the deflection modules on these sets are pretty reasonable you need to have a tech swap it but i highly suggest that than a new one the chirping is the set trying to start up but going into shut down
Chirping means the power supply is being loaded down by a short in most cases, likely a bad convergance IC http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html
A chirping sound usually means that one of the secondary supplies has shorted, most likely the horizontal output transistor. The power supply "chirps", which is the sound it makes when it protects itself from drawing too much current. The set should be serviced by someone with experience in Philips projection TV'.
Most of the time, when there is a chirping comming from a TV set, there is a short somewhere inside the TV set. That chirping noise is the TV's power supply starting up and shutting down because of a heavy load on the power supply. These sets have no user replaceable parts inside them, so play it safe, and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. good Luck
