Dell vostro 1500 windows xp.. Every time I turn on the computer it says error loading operating system.. i don't have the recovery disk or reinstallation disk..I tried ctrl f11 does not work but f2 let's u access the bios and f12 starts the one time boot options..I have tried reinstalling from internal and it stops..here's the weird thing the laptop has a round home button and when I press it ..it starts into media direct. When I hit f8 on start up it gives me other options like safe mode with network and other stuff tried that and it starts reading the hard drive and stops and says config list boot error..it also gives me the option to restore factory image and it does the same thing..it even says boot windows normally and that doesn't even work? I tried dell for the recovery CD and they are charging through the nose for something so old..I know about the usb reboot but I don't have an extra computer..I have home brew on my Wii that has an app for me to extract files from an sd card an transfer to a usb..I wonder if their is a way to make a bootable recovery usb by downloading the program on a smart phone to sd card..then place sdcard in wWii ..transfer file to usb and use usb flash to boot laptop?

Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop:my laptop is no longer going beyond "microsoft corporation" screen with the green progress bar

It sounds like there is a file or files in either your boot files or system files that are missing or corrupt.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? Turn off the computer, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Select the Safe Mode option and see if it boots up. If it does Click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Select a restore point (date and time) that is before you started having this problem. Let it run and then see what happens. If it does not resolve the issue then: (see below)

You'll need a system disk to get around this.
Put the system disk in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (black box with white lettering) so that you can type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check Disk will run for well over an hour. You will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low, but that is normal. Let it run to completion then reboot.

In windows xp you can get to the command prompt by selecting Repair when the options come up. You'll be doing a repair to the Windows Operating System. Most times you select it by entering a 1. Most times the Administrator password is blank so just press enter.

In Vista you will have to get to the Recovery Console and the command prompt will be down at the bottom

Error on windows load

[boot loader]

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
This is what the boot.ini file should look like. Use U'r recovery disk to create or edit the ini file as above. U cannot use DOS 6.22 to create this file if U'r system is formated in NTFS.
If U don't have a recovery disk, make one from someone else's XP computer (DOS 7.xx).

For using xp you must have the correct drivers. These should be available for download from the Dell support website. You may also find updating windows xp will help you may be using service pack one, so make sure all updates are done.

If you have to load drivers you should load the chipset first followed by the graphics then the sound. Check on your hardware list under system in control panel that there are no conflicts.
