I can not get the receiver to recognize more than one digital audio input. I am trying to use digital audio from my direct tv receiver, and my ps3 player. I have tried about a thousand things. the best I have done is have it recognoze digital audio 1 (not 2 or 3). the manual doesn't even talk about digital audio.

When i hook my ps3 to the receiver i only get audio??

Make sure that you have a connection from video out to the TV, from the input you are using for the PS3 on the receiver. The connection for video to the TV is labeled "monitor out" on the receiver. You can use one of the following for it; composite, component or S-video. Or...

Your best results however for your hardware, is to connect your PS3 directly to the TV, then connect the "audio out" from the TV to the receiver. Then select on the receiver the matching input you connected the audio to from the TV.

Hi i can't get any sound thru my speakers. I have hdmi from ps3 to tv optical from ps3 to receiver. i have tried dvd video 1 video 2 what setting am i missing? thanks

first: make sure you have the audio output setting on the ps3 set to digital optical output

second: make sure you select whatever the optical input is assigned as, probably dvd. i think there is a button on the front of the receiver that says digital input, make sure you hit that. A little light on the front screen of the receiver will say digital.

Set the receiver for auto audio input - I think that you are getting caught out between MPEG and DTS audio. If you have the wrong one for the audio source then you hear nothing.

No analog comming out of receiver when optical input is used .

as a rule...in order to get analog audio out of a receiver, it must have an analog input. you could use a digital to analog converter between the tv and stereo or come out of both of your source devices (ps3, cable) with analog to the receiver. good luck

Run optical or digital coaxial from your PS3 to the receiver and HDMI from the PS3 directly to the TV. Your receiver's version of HDMI will not work, it's 1.1 and cannot be updated. That's the fix, if you want more info on HDMI problems google HDMI issues or problems and you will find thousands of posts and forums on this issue. Short answer though is, you either need a receiver with version 1.3b HDMI or run optical or digital coaxial for audio to your receiver. Hope this helps

PS3 surround sound

You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.

Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.

Hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
