The heading says it all. I am trying to print on Canon MX850. When it needs to use black ink,it always go to small black ink cartridge (CLI-8BK). Large Black Ink Cartridge is full but the printer would not print from it. HELP!
How to reset this printer to factory settings?
Ink Carts do act finicky at times. Especially Canon carts.
In many cases, the ink carts have a small fuse built into the back of the cartridge that opens up if the cart has been removed for any reason. Replacement Carts come with the fused portion reset, thus when you insert it into the printer, it works great. If the cart is FULL, it still may not be observed as full or new by the Printer itself. Best way is to use a new cart, not necessarily a Canon Brand. Use an inexpensive company like

Somewhat, yes black is black but the CLI is formulated specifically for photo printing

1st step: Press and hold the Stop/reset button for 5-10 sec then release. I
f ot working then use a Qtip and moisture (not wet) it with water. Cleans the chip gently and re-insert it back and redo the 1st step.
It work for me everytime!

Make sure you are not printing with "photo" settings. Reset to defaults from the preferenceies, select plain paper. See if that solves it.

Just bought new MX318 one chamber gets finished after a few pages. No indicator for finished ink. One compartment of Ink cartridge looks empty the other still full. Tried cleening process but no improvement. Replaced Cartridge but it seems to behave the same as the first after a few prints.
