You cannot tell whether the sensor has shorted out or has simply failed to generate a reading if your Whirlpool range only displays two-digit codes. On a Whirlpool range with four-digit error codes, the F3-E0 code represents a failed temperature sensor and F3-E1 represents a short in the sensor. Regardless of which code is displayed, replacing the temperature sensor is the only way to correct the problem.

Unplug the range.
Remove the rear panel to access the temp probe.
Unplug the temp probe and test for 1100 ohms.
Test the temp probe to ground also.
Sometimes the connectors are bad.and must be direct wired.
Unplug and re-plug the ribbon connector to the ERC.
F-1 is a connection problem since you have a new control.
