You're confused. You can only use wireless printers if you have a wireless router.

Additionally, do not use WPS, it is inherently insecure. Set the device up by hand.

I am trying to hook up my canon mx472 to wireless (shaw internet) and it won't ask for the password. Therefore...no connection.

If the router/modem has WPS:

WPS Connection Method
  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on. Press & hold the [Wi-Fi] button on the top of the printer until the alarm lamp flashes once.
  2. Make sure that the lamp next to this button starts to flash blue and then go to your access point and press the [WPS] button within 2 minutes.

If your router does not have a clearly marked 'WPS' button, please use the CD with your computer to perform the standard wireless installation.

On installing the canon pixma printer it says hold down the wps button what is this button where is it located

That would apply only if your modem (router) has a WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) button on it. It is located on the modem (if applicable), not on the printer. Hope this helps.

Wps light blinking

CALL YOUR ISP FIRST.
wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections. Some of NETGEAR's products use the name Push 'n' Connect for WPS. To use WPS, your product must support WPS and be compatible with WPA security. WPS can automatically set up a random network name (SSID) and strong WPA wireless security for wireless routers, access points, computers, adapters, Wi-Fi phones, and other electronic devices. WPS lets you use a push button or enter a personal identification number (PIN) instead of manually entering a network name (SSID) and password:
  • Push button. The WPS button is either on the product or a clickable button on a wizard or utility screen.

Can't connect to wireless network from canon mp499

Steps to Connect Canon MP499 to Wireless Network:
1. Check Wireless Network Settings:
Make sure your wireless network is operational and that you have the correct network name (SSID) and password.
Ensure that your Canon MP499 is within the range of your wireless router.

2. Printer Display:
On the printer's control panel, navigate to the setup menu. Look for a wireless setup option.

3. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard:
Initiate the wireless setup process on the printer. This often involves navigating to the "Wireless LAN Setup" or a similar option.
Select the option to connect to your wireless network.

4. Enter Wi-Fi Credentials:
When prompted, enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. Ensure that you enter the correct information.

5. WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):
If your router supports WPS, you can use this method for easy connection.
Press the WPS button on your router.
On the printer, select the WPS option and follow the on-screen instructions.
