Why is Lexmark Pro705 printing envelopes in red vs. black?

Try to do a printhead cleaning operation.
Possible that there is not enough black ink in the printhead.

SOURCE: Lexmark 125 Prints Labels with color cartridge

I kicked the **** out of it and it started to print. I don't recommend it if you are afraid you may damage the electronics. The way I saw I spent damn near 70 dollars on some useless print cartidges nothing was wrong with them. The error message kept saying ADD CARTRIDGES. Anyway I'm thinking about a new printer anyhow.

SOURCE: printing on a #10 envelope

Go into your Word Document and print from "Tools" then "Letters and Mailings" and click on Envelopes and Labels. Sometime the perimeter isn't defined and it is on there but it's outside the scope of your envelope, especially if the return address isn't in the correct place also. You may even be able to correct it where you are by decreasing the "window" of your typing space, it's just too large.

SOURCE: Printing

Check on your color (not mono) ink levels. If they are low, this could cause this.

Technical info: On this printer, envelope text is printed in "composite black" which means we mix the colored inks to make black. This is done for envelopes and not letters because of the ink properties which resist water and smear. If one of the colors is low, you'll get something other than black.

LEXMARK X1240 WON'T PRINT ENVELOPES

I was so pissed off that so many on the web had this same problem that I spent many hours trying to get it to work. I am sure that this is not how it is designed to work but my envelopes got printed.First I went under File, Print, Properties to Page Set-up for envelope #10. I also ********** print colour images in black and white which someone else had suggested- although it might not be necessary. I selected quick print but normal should probably work too. I then closed out these two windows. Then under tools, I selected Letters and Mailing, then envelopes and labels, typed in the addresses, went under options and changed the feed from automatic to default tray, which automatically changes the feed method to the 4th one out of 6 which wasn't what I wanted but ignore it. Check off face up. Putting the envelope into the printer was bizarre- it has to be inserted very far into the printer until only 2-3 inches of the envelope stick above the horizontal surface of the printer. It must be inserted into the middle of the paper holder, until it is just 2-3 inches sticking up, and then slide it all the way over to the right where the printer indicates the envelope should be- nice and straight against the right margin. Do not use the movable paper holders that they suggest you swing over to the right to hold your envelope- or printing won't occur for some odd reason. Press O.K. on envelopes and labels and then press print. Good luck- it worked for me.

Envelopes print in color and I want black only

First you need to change the settings in the software you are trying to print the envelope. Open the program (for example MS Word), go to the option from which you print envelopes and labels. Set the font color to black, not "automatic", and in Word, click "default", which sets the color as black rather than allowing the printer or its software to select the wrong color. Then try to print on the envelope and let us know if you are able to print the envelope in black only.

Printing envelopes

You have to either use the MP Feeder or an Envelope Feeder. When you send the job to the "Manual Envelope" option, it will beep and prompt before each envelope is printed. Same will happen when you use the "Manual Paper" option.

You will have a hard time printing 1000 envelopes. The printer will print a rated engine speeed for the first 6-10...After that, the narrow media sensor will force the printer to slow down and you will proabably get 5-6 envelopes printed per minute.

Just fixed it thanks to Lloyd at Lexmark.com Go to Technical Support > LIVE CHAT. To print envelopes all I needed was to check the print in "Black" only button. Under Quality make sure the Print Color images in Black box is checked, select Apply and OK.
