Hi there , if you replaced it with a new one. it is just the fault of the place of the blank ink, you should clean the place by a tissue before place the new one . if it is the old one and u refilled it, it is a different story: first you must inject 3cc of ink , no more. if you replaced it, and it is not working, you can take out and put it in several times , with each time you have to turn off and on the printer till the light offs.
second, if you put it in the place and it does not work, please hold the reset button for 10 seconds, it will work properly, hope it get benefit to all.

SOURCE: can ip1300 print with just black ink cartridge?

AS far as I know you cannot put a black cartridge in the place of a colour cartridge it has to be a colour one. Check your printer properties to see if you can set your printer to work in black only, if you can then set it to black but leave the empty colour cartridge in place. This works for my 1800. Give it a try.

Why does the the left hand orange button flash ?

Here's what worked for me,
Obviously check and make sure you deficiently haven't ran out of ink.

Turn the printer off Remove the colour cartridge
dab the cartridge point with a slightly damp tissue, if ink comes out then turn printer back on without the colour cartridge and try and print some thing in black and white.
turn printer off again and insert the colour cartridge
This strangely will get rid of the blinking light.
If there was no ink reissue on the tissue when dabbed, you'll need to get a new cartridge.

If problems persist I'd recommend getting the printer properly cleaned.
Hope this helps.

Under Attention, orange lights are flashing for black and white and color. I have put new ink cartridges in turned on and off and still flashing orange. Wher it says Start/Copy, a big E is flashing. ...

I would try to remove both ink cartridges.
Close cover and turn off printer and unplug from outlet.
Wait at least 15 minutes, this will let printer to completely reset.
Turn on printer and wait for printer to stop.
Install both ink cartridges.

Orange cartridge light is flashing. I know the black cartridge is empty, but the colour cartridge is o.k. Why can't I print in colour?

Inkjet printers use a combination of inks to produce colors; while you may not realize it, your printer uses black ink to print colors as well, to darken the hue of a color. Otherwise, it would be limited to very "bright" colors. Replace the black cartridge, you will be fine.

Orange flashing light on printer

No the ink is not to low you could try removing the ink cartridges and using a soft cloth wipe clean the little gold contacts on the cartridge and also the printer. Is the ink cartridge a original one if not even though the HP software states that there is 20% in there the likely thing is that the cartridge is empty replace and this should be OK.

I hope the first suggestion works for you as will not cost any money.

Thanks J

Getting "E" error icon with orange light flashing above by ink drop icon

click on start, then click run, type in the word services.msc, you will then get a list of options scroll down the lost to the letter p and find the word print spooler. click print spooler once then in the left corner you will have to options, either to stop or refresh, before doing anything take the usb out of the back of the printer, then click on stop, then click start, then click refresh, after this put your usb back in the printer, and that ''should'' solve the problem. email me if works or does not, thanks
