Scroll your finger down from the top of screen, will bring down notifications menu and should be wifi and that there at the top. Or its under settings in the menu.
i remember having a similar issue with my Note (original) a few years back, it was something to do with the phone settings, i had to put the device into USB mode for it to connect and transfer files.
